  2. Oooh Bertie, you look spooky in those two photos taken in the dark! Are you practising for Halloween?
We don't know what breed that pretty little pup is either. Not one we've seen here, so my human consulted her doggy book and says that she looks a bit like a Dandie Dinmont, except that her tail is too long!
That was a lovely walk, thank you for taking us along with you.

    Love,

    1. We too wondered if the pup was a large Dandie Dinmont, but no it wasn't.

    2. Now we know what breed the pup is, my human is going to ask Mr Google for more information!
If she's a rare breed, will she have puppies?

  3. You sure do have the most beautiful walks, Bertie, and we love that tree with the mushrooms above your head! hummmmmm - is the pup a Terrier of some sort?

    1. It is indeed a terrier, but you have to say which one!

    2. Is it a Norfolk Terrier?

    3. Sorry, not a Norfolk! Again, we see a similarity, but a Norfolk has a somewhat shorter body.

  4. Bertie what a wonderful Nature Friday post. I would truly be in awe of being able to see the ocean and the mountains all in one stroll.
    Carin Terrier possibly.
    Hugs for a happy weekend

  5. i can only guess that the new pup is a terrier of some kind. I am not good at breeds, we are Mutt people. Don't get upset Bertie, we love all breeds and especailly YOU and sitting on that stump is awesome.. what a great walk you had.

Well, I gotta say, Bertie lad, your walking compawnyan looks remarkably like an Australian Terrier to me (which came out of blending Scotties, Cairns and Skyes...) Very pretty and I hope you enjoyed meeting it as much as I enjoyed your post today! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

    1. No, sorry, y'all need to keep guessing! Hint: it is a Kennel Club registered breed.

The AT is KCreg... and I would never have come up with the Glen - never having heard of it before! Looked it up now and quite the wee dandy it is.

A fun post today!!! YAM xx

  7. Hello, Bertie, could your companion be a Lucas Terrier? Her tail is a little confusing, but some do have longer tails. She is, without question, a cute-pie, as you are a handsome dude. I remain impressed that there are so many beautiful, natural areas to walk, so close to your city home.

    1. Not a Sporting Lucas. (That's what Gail's walking companion Margaret, pictured in the background, thought it might be.) Perhaps we should point out that in Scotland the docking of dogs' tails is completely banned.

    2. OK, how about a Glen of Imaal Terrier? That's my final guess! Otherwise, I will take "Cat in a Halloween costume"!

    3. YES!!! WELL DONE! CONGRATULATIONS!

    4. Guessing was delightful fun, for a dull work day!

    5. It really was a Glen of Imaal - a type of terrier which features in my 1960 version of the Observer Book of Dogs (my childhood bible) but I don't recall ever having seen before. They are very rare - on the Kennel Club's list of 'vulnerable native breeds.
Thanks for being a good sport and taking part in the quiz. Cheers, Gail.

  8. Bertie, tell Gail Beau missed a dead squirrel today, we were walking in the gutter and the squirrel was dead but still soft, and Beau almost stepped on it, his paw was a few inches and it was between me ad beau. he walked by it like there was nothing there. I could not walk out and around it due to traffic and braced myself to be yanked to a stop for a sniff session. kind of worries me. I would love to see a fox

  9. I think it may be a Norfolk Terrier?

  10. Those are all great shots of you exploring nature. Is your mystery terrier a Scottie? We know they come in a wheaten color and it seems every other terrier breed has already been guessed.

    1. Although you are right that Scotties can be wheaten (something Gail learned in her early blogging days from the wonderful 'Rocky Creek Scotties' blog), this one is not a Scottie.
It seems another hint may be needed. Think Celtic but not Scottish!
