Today we are celebrating my 11th birthday, while Gail is also fondly remembering my predecessor Hamish the Westie, whose life came to and end on the very same day that mine began.
And what better way to mark the occasion than for Gail to bake me some ultra-scrumptious Haggis and Cheese Scones*!
In a subtle nod to one of Hamish's most famous exploits, Gail served me the scones on the Nottingham lace tablecloth she inherited from Human Granny and Grandad.
[You might remember also that I once staged a re-enactment of the 'Hamish trashes HGY's scones and smears jam all over the lace tablecloth' episode...]
PS from Gail: huge thanks to our cycling friend Muriel for alerting me to this most deliciously Scottish scone recipe!
oooh what a fab menu!!!! happy happy birthday dear Bertie, the bestest ambassador of da land of da braves...
ReplyDeleteHappy Happy Happy Happy Happy Happy Happy Happy Happy Happy Happy Birthday Bertie...OMDs might I suggest Gail open a Ba(r)kery..offering those scrumptious Scones. Bertie I commend and applaud your impeccable table manners while dining on lace and you even had a placemat that matches you very pretty blue sweater.
ReplyDeleteI still get a serious case of the giggles recalling Gail's post about Hamish!!
I'm sure if Hamish had a paw in getting you to continue his antics and keeping Gail in line.
Loads of hugs to you from
Cecilia and Bryan
Hari OM
ReplyDeleteOMD Berte Lad - celebration whoops from me to you!!! (Though my question of Gail is how in heck to you grate a product that is naturally 'friable'??!!!) Clearly the scones get all four paws of approval and I do hope, Bertie, that there was more than one in the offing - though pawhaps not eleven. That would be excessive... Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
Hey happy birthday Bertie.....looks like you enjoyed the scone....you never came up for air π. All served on a lovely tablecloth too....you are a lucky boy. I must have been thinking of you today cause I've just been out for my bike ride and guess what kind of scone I had for my snack today.....yes you're right haggis and cheese.....I was raving to my cycling buddy how yummy they wereππ. Have a lovely birthday Bertie and wishing you many happy returns too.. Muriel

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Dear Bertie, I am happy for you but do PEOPLE eat those too? I looked up HAGGIS...UGH. oops sorry, i do have a dog who eats dog poop, so i guess this isnt to bad. I used to eat Tripe as a child, which is the same thing as haggis but cow not sheep. then someone told me what mother was feeding us.. this was way back in 1950 so you know i am older than 11. sorry for stealing your blog. Hope you have a wonderful day and many more years of haggis scones
ReplyDeleteforgot to say the very same mother that fed me tripe would want that beautiful table cloth
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Bertie!!! You sure got a great feast to celebrate your special day. Our Mom has some of those lace tablecloths too, but we aren't sure she would let us eat off of them or even stand on them. You must be very special.
