PE with Bertie!

It has come to my notice that in these times of lockdown there is a good living to be had as a fitness trainer, and I am thinking that I might have something to offer in this expanding field.

Tell me, does your human ever struggle to keep up with you when out on walks?

Well I have an infallible method of incentivising mine to get the old cardiovascular system pumping away.

You race well ahead, making like you're chasing a deer or something. You feign deafness, and as your human's shouts become louder and more panic-stricken, you step on the gas.

For sure they will sooner or later be compelled to ignore all those things they learned in puppy school about never ever running after your dog while trying to recall them...

Of course it is important to judge things right so you provide your human with a good workout while not making them so cross that treats are not forthcoming.

Who's for PE with Bertie then? A full body workout - sprinting, frantic arm waving, exercising vocal chords too - guaranteed!

PS Photos taken last week. Our snow has mostly melted now.

  4. I'm always on a leash for walkies but I do pull my mom along when we're heading away from home but I tend to dawdle on the way back. You're a great trainer, Bertie!

  5. Dogs do make the best trainers! We often say to each other that if we did not have bow to make us get up and go for walks and play ball and take him outside we would just sit and stare at the walls in the TV and the computer. With a dog in the house you got to get up and move and I'm laughing because I have this picture in my head of Gail sprinting along behind you waving her arms and screaming. Beau said to tell you that if you come over to Florida he'll give you lessons and being the perfect Walker because he walks at the end of the leash and he walks whatever speed Mama walks and daddy can't walk fast so when he's with Daddy he walks slow. Of course here we have leash laws and you can't let dogs off the leash so that might have something to do with it

  6. PS both said to tell Gail that he does act like an Aussie a lot because he loves to lay on his back with his paws all up in the air but we did not know that that's what I'll see you do

  7. BOL BOL BOL BOL Bertie the trials and tribulations of being YOU, as you try your very best to keep Gail in shape. She should be grateful that you turn a deaf ear to her commands to stop. Your snow is absolutely gorgeous.

  8. I am all in for your personal training courses, Bertie! You could set up virtual courses (as Gail often does with her maps) and we could walk the same distances, while running and "flapping," occasionally. We are doing the San Francisco Chinese YMCA New Year's Run this year (virtually), just like we used to do in "real" life! Toodle pip!

  9. Gail is so lucky to have you for her personal trainer, Bertie. The only place we are off leash is our fenced in back yard but it is still rather large (1 acre) and sometimes we go behind the big shrubs and feign deafness when our pawrents try to call us to go back in the house.

  10. Always thinking about Gail, Bertie. Such a good dog. We get HER to do the arm-waving, shouting bit, and maybe a power walk....but never a good sprint or even a jog.

  11. I applaud your technique but don't overdo it because it is hard to drag an entire human home.

  12. Bravo my furiend!! All fine tips! I would follow them religiously, if only Ma let me off my walking string.....sigh. No worries, I will find other ways to ignore her, and gets her BP raised! BOL!!

  13. Well, Bertie, my human thinks that's a grand idea, and if we lived nearer, she'd sign me up for training!
Really though, I don't need it because mostly I'm off my lead and go at my own pace - there's a lot of sniffing for me to do! Usually my human is way ahead and waiting for me to catch up - she does walk quite quickly for such an old person! I only speed up when we go past a couple of houses where the dogs bark at me - and when I know we are nearly home. That's when my human gets her exercise - she suddenly has to run to keep up with me!
What fun we have when we make our humans run!

    Love,
    Inca xx

  14. Shyla here - I did something like that last week with a dead rodent hanging from my mouth. Not only did my human get a workout but she also made up new swear words. To cap it off, I swallowed the rodent just when she got close. It was hilarious, my friend.
