Warning, post contains troubling images...

The roads being apparently too icy for the bicycle this weekend, Gail sent an S.O.S. call to her Cycling WhatsApp group.

I am delighted to report that Heather answered the call, and a rendezvous was arranged for Saturday morning.

But before showing you more photos from the walk along the coastal path, I need to issue a trigger alert.

THIS POST CONTAINS IMAGES OF PALE AND GOOSE-PIMPLED HUMAN FLESH. (THOUGH THANKFULLY NOT IN HIGH DEFINITION...)

But first we chanced upon two other friends, out for a run, and they paused for a socially-distanced few words. Feeling sprightly, I wanted to join them running, but was reined in.

So Heather, Gail and I proceeded as planned to Cove Harbour, where I do believe that my compliant posing was used as a front for Gail to zoom in on a small party of swimmers.

What! No wet suits???!!!

Readers, the sea temperature in these parts is currently around 7ºC. And on Saturday morning, despite the sunshine, the air temperature was only a smidge above freezing....

Rest assured I kept all four paws on solid ground. As, thankfully, did Gail and Heather.

But still I am worried that all the humans are going a little crazy just now...

  2. That looks like a lovely walk Bertie.
Goodness - they must be brave to swim in 7ºC! I'm so glad that you didn't decide to join them.
There wasn't anyone swimming in the sea, not even in a wet suit, last time we walked along the prom. a couple of days ago, and that's the Med, so bound to be a bit warmer!

    Love,
    Inca xx

I am afraid of heights. but it is gorgeous

...OMD, Bertie lad. The things folk will do for the endorphine high. You, Gail and others may be interested to read; Own every decision you make: risks of entering very cold water include heart attack, asthma attack, panic attacks, cold incapacitation, cold shock, drowning, hypothermia and death.

    1. Obviously I have no idea about those swimmers' general state of health, but to be fair, if you have to go winter swimming in Scotland, it's not a bad spot - sheltered from waves and strong currents, a gently sloping floor etc. And they didn't stay in long or venture out of their depth, and weren't alone. So maybe in this case not too dangerous.

  6. WooHoo for you, Gail and Heather and especially for everyone's excellent IQ that kept all your feets firmly planted on the ground. I'm shivering just looking at the heads bobbin' in the water then OMDs they got out into the cold air. Whew. Polar plunge must have been on their list. This being said what a beautiful location for a trek on dry ground properly dressed for January weather.

  7. It looks like you had a great time on your walk, Bertie. Those people are a bit touched in the head to go swimming in those temps.

  8. Momma said the humans think they're polar bears? It sounds very strange to me!!

  9. Definitely cabin fever happening in your area. No way would we swim in that cold....or even the usual Aberdeen summer temps. Glad you got a good walk. Looking handsome as ever, Bertie.
It is predicted to reach the Century mark here today. We will be hibernating.

  10. They must belong to that same silly group of peeps here that do that shockingly cold plunge everywhere. How crazy some humans are!!! We much prefer to dip our feet in a lot of snow, if only we had some.
