Snow bonus walk on Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve in Aberdeen we wake up to the first snowfall of the season.

What's not to like about snow?

Suddenly the world seems magical and new, all sparking clean and white. And even better, Gail's cycling 'girls' for once see sense and abandon their usual Thursday morning ride in favour of a walk across Hazlehead Park and golf course.

And yours truly is invited along, despite being neither female nor a fan of the bicycle.

Oh we had a fine morning hike through the snow - and slush and mud. The destination was the restaurant at Dobbie's garden centre, where I was allowed into the special 'dog-friendly' seating area and stood patiently while the ladies took advantage of the last opportunity for indoor coffee and scones before the cafés are all locked down again until heaven only knows when. (Gail predicts 23 March 2021).

It would have been the perfect outing were it not for the payback on returning home...

Happy Christmas!

  1. Dear Bertie and Gail...ooooh yes indeedy your world is magical and sparkly. Bertie it takes a special kinda men to keep that many women in line and you da man. I'm so happy you were able to go inside too. Sorry about the feets but it was a small price to pay.
Sending you and Gail very warm hugs from across the Pond (where it is raining buckets) but that is ok we have groceries. We have a very cold weekend predicted but dry
    Cecilia and Bryan
PS Happy Happy you have a nice wardrobe full of jumpers

  2. Oh Bertie, what a wonderful Christmas Eve...and we bet you get extra points from Santa for the whole feety bath thing!
    Merry Christmas!

  3. what a beatiful fun walk in the sunshine and snow. even with the payback it had to be worth it. Beau says he fully understands about muddy paws.. the good news is, In Flordia Mud is rare.. in the 2 months with us, he has only had muddy paws 3 times

    1. Mud is a pretty much permanent state of affairs in Scotland, the only question is whether it's slightly muddy, very muddy, or full on bog conditions!

  4. You are so lucky to have snow and what a fun walk you had with the ladies. Too bad you had to get a bath. At least your country has the sense to lock down to try to stop the virus. Around here we won't see a national lockdown until at least January 21, 2021.

  5. You are very correct, Bertie - we are very jealous of your snow. But we are happy you and Gail got to enjoy it on that nice walk with friends.

Merry Christmas from all of us. We hope Santa leaves lots of goodies for everyone.

Jolly Jingling Woos - Lightning, Misty, and Timber

  6. Hari OM
Bertie lad, it seems you over in the East got the white stuff whilst we had the sunshine for a change! I was talking to my pal Aitch on the phone this morning and she's screaming in my ear "it's snowing!!!" (Longframlington, near Morpeth) Meanwhile, the sunpuddle on my shoulders was delicious! Have a snuggle day tomorrow you two. Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  7. Merry Christmas, Bertie and Gail. Perhaps the beautiful snow is a sign of good things to come. We can only hope. /Fay

  8. Have a healthy and happy and peaceful one xxxx

  9. Snow - Bertie you lucky boy! What's it like? It's not something we get here, it's too warm. My human remembers it when she lived far away, and says it's pretty to look at as long as you're warm and indoors and don't have to travel anywhere!
The bath after the muddy paws was just one of the things you have to bear after such a super walk. Lucky you - in good company and going into a café too.
Have a lovely Christmas both of you.

    Inca xx

  10. You have more snow than I do now, Bertie! Merry Christmas to you and Gail!

  11. Merry Christmas Gail and Bertie. We are jealous of your snow but at least our warm weather meant we could have an outdoor Christmas Eve gathering with friends—a treat!

  12. Bertie and Gail I came back to wish you both dear ones a very Merry Christmas.
OMDs Bertie I love your header, jumper and your little light on your collar
    Hugs Cecilia

  13. Your first photo is Christmas Card perfect. A great outing, and it could have involved a WHOLE body bath at the end. A foot wash was worth it. Hope you're having an enjoyable Christmas Day.

  14. We have rain no all our snow is gone. If we are not careful we will end up in the tub too. Merry Christmas!

  15. Aberdeen looks like the perfect town to celebrate Christmas. A modern Dickens Village

  16. Hi friend, Ojo here! Hurray for snow! Boo for bath.

  17. Ohhhhh, how nice! I've never seen a white Christmas, but I'm glad you gots such a pretty one!

  18. How very exciting to get an early Christmas present...SNOW!!!!
