Gravity Waves inspire Valentine Verse

A love poem dedicated to my sweetheart Addi, and inspired by the recent and thrilling announcement that gravity waves have finally been detected, a century after Albert Einstein first predicted their existence:

ALL OF A FLUTTER

by Bouncing Bertie Boffin

When I think of you Addi, so large yet so sweet
My heart starts a pounding. It will not behave
In the regular way. So strong are its beats
I believe I've produced gravitational waves.

These faint fluctuations will surely distort
The space-time continuum betwixt you and me.
I know you will feel them; a lass of your sort
Has the requisite fine sensitivity.

In my mind I imagine old Einstein is smiling
His forecasts are all now proved right.
And you dearest Addi, I find most beguiling;
So massive, so dense and so white.

PS  Gosh I am so excited about joining Addi on our unique Blogville Valentine's Day Parade float on Sunday 14th Feb.

  1. Oh you are so romantic Bertie, Addi will be making her own gravity waves as she leaps around in joy after reading your poem( a bit like Dad last night when he made gravity waves accidentally kicking over my water bowl- although his weren't joyful!)

  2. Gorgeous poem. We're sure the waves will move the earth.... Wait just a minute. We saw the waves on the news this morning, aren't they caused by two black holes?

    1. Oh wow, I feel most honoured!
Gail tells me she cycled round the edge of the Hanford, Washington site on her vacation last year, but did not then realise it was home to one of the Ligo labs!

  20. Bertie did you know Love is a wildly misunderstood although highly desirable malfunction of the heart which weakens the brain, causes eyes to sparkle, cheeks to glow, blood pressure to rise and the lips to pucker. Oh No you have a weak brains.
    Happy Valentines Day
