A secret place in the woods

Have you ever fantasised about a Thoreau-like retreat into a secret hideaway in the woods?

I bet you have.

Well earlier this week I think I found the perfect spot.

Just follow me along this path between the birch trees and I'll show you.

We'll pause a for a mindful moment to appreciate the wood sorrel,

Before penetrating deeper into the forest.

Eventually we reach a clearing and find a ready-made dwelling place. Simple but pleasing, I think you'll agree.

Let me show you round.

So there's a well constructed bench beside a cosy fireplace,

And a leak proof roof (er, maybe).

Can you believe that Gail says I'd last half a night out here before she found me whimpering on the doorstep of our solid Aberdeen granite house, pleading to come inside and cuddle up on her warm bed...

Happy Nature Friday! And once again thanks to our dear LLB Gang friends for hosting the blog hop.

  2. I suspect I would like it more than Oscar - whippets are not good with the weather! Great den though.
PS. Looking forward to taking Oscar to some of the Welsh bothies when they open up gain soon.

  3. Um..no... I don't think I'd ever get chance to even try it Bertie, my human is such a cowardy custard, and really likes her creature comforts. She says that I wouldn't like it either, especially if I was left all on my own!
Oh dear, I hadn't thought of that, but if I lived near you we could share it!

    Love,
    Inca xx

  4. It's a great fort to play in during the day but we want to be safe, warm and dry inside the house at night.

  5. It looks like a fun place to hang out in during the day, but we would rather be home in our comfy bed at night. I bet you would too.

Well now, Bertie lad, I quite understand Gail's point of view... however, I think with some improvements, that wee teepee would suit me just fine!!! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  7. OHDs Bertie do tell me if you found an evidence of Fairies living there? Jumpin' Catfish you found the Mother Lode...at least during the warm dry daylight. Come dark and the first sound I heard go bump in the night, I'd be whimpering right beside you begging Gail to let us come inside.
Hugs and OMDs thank you for sharing

  8. Beau and I both prefer HOUSES, but this little dwelling is perfect for outdoor visits, just no sleeping over night. me thinks something happened to the roof, like maybe a wind storm.. Beau is fine, no sick, he and 3 of our 6 dogs eat grass just for the heck of it

  9. That looks like a cool place to hang out during the day but we agree with Gail that it's better to sleep warm and cozy in bed with our parents.

  10. Years ago, we would have loved camping out in a place like that. But these days we prefer our creature comforts more.

  12. I love walks in the forest under cathedral ceilings——and secret hideaways. Some of our most memorable walks were in northern California. Thanks for inviting us to join you on your adventure.

  16. That looks like a great spot. It would have been better if Thoreau had a dog. He might have lightened up a bit.
