Should I have made her pay?

We need to talk about something a wee bit embarrassing this morning.

Over the last month or so, I have been needing to pee more often than I used to. I'm mortified to report that there have even been occasions when I could not wait to be let out into the garden. Oh and I was so proud of my reputation for bring super 'reliable' in these matters. I seem to be thirstier too.

Unsure whether this was just part of me getting older or something more worrying, Gail took me to the vet.

The vet checked me over, saw nothing obviously wrong but asked Gail to bring her a sample of my urine.

My owner, can you believe it, viewed the matter of collecting this sample with some distaste, worried that the collection process would involve me peeing over her hand as well as the bowl she planned to place under me. She seemed unmoved when I pointed out that some humans (I'm told) actually pay good money for so-called 'golden showers', and here was an opportunity for her to enjoy the experience for free...

Later Gail had the nerve to complain about my "unpredictable aim".

The vet has now reported back that my urine is 'borderline' dilute, so investigations will continue and I'll be going back to give a blood sample on Thursday.

Meanwhile, I am, pee matters aside, feeling just hunky dory. Gail and I are delighted that Aberdeen's tiresome local lockdown has been lifted. We had a lovely walk at Forvie Sands this afternoon (see below), and are looking forward to meeting up on Sunday with the wire-haired fox terrier group for the first time in over six months. After that we'll be heading off to Torridon again. Yippee!

  1. to get a pee sample from a boy is THE mission impossible LOL we cross all paws that the blood-sample brings good news to you and that there is nothing to worry for you and your Gail...

  2. Maybe you should be glad that Gail does not share a preference for golden showers wif a certain cheeto-in-chief since perhaps such preferences come wif a predilection for orange makeup and a lack of basic human decency. Ok, that's probably just our president, but I think there's a point somewhere . . .

  3. Oh Bertie - we do hope that there is nothing seriously amiss, and you'll get a good report from your vet.
It's such a nuisance as we get older (doggies -and humans too) things don't always work as well as they should. We keeping our paws and fingers crossed that all will be well for you - and it's nothing to worry about. One good thing these days, is that there is usually some good medicine to make things right.

    Love,

Well, you are being looked after well, Bertie lad, and that is the key to managing any health matters. That beach looks idyllic (at least on that day) and I wish all the best for the meet-up and golly, won't Torry look like heaven when you get there?!! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  5. WEll Bertie you know we all have your back and send you tons of good vibes when you go back to the vet. In my humble unqualified opinion..it is stress pp. Geeeeeez Louise every living breathing being has been unduly stressed for 6 months. Maybe you need variety (other than Gail's hands) for the process of pp. I have heard K9's often hold pp for the perfect spot! I predict when you get out on your lovely walk abouts and back to your cottage you will
be PP freely and often. Just Sayin'
    Hugs to you and Gail

  7. Boys are harder to collect peepee from than girls. That's for sure!
We are so happy for you that your lockdown orders have been lifted!

  8. Momma just lets the dogtor collect the sample! It sounds like some kidney issues as you get a little older, very common! Hopefully you'll resolve it quickly.

  9. Sending healing vibes your way Bertie...and having to collecting and embarrassing amout of pee over the years, Mama says an old discarded ladle(or inexpensive new one) to collect and transfer the liquid has worked for her in the past.

Sounds like you are going to be a busy guy, enjoy!!

  10. Other than the pee situation, Sounds like things are looking up. Walks further abroad, WFT meetings and Torridon! Life is good. We were going to suggest the ladle idea, too.

  11. Oh dear, deja vu with Lightning. We hope it is just a simple UTI. It took way too many tests to reach no conclusion with Lightning. Maybe some meds will make it all better.
