Not a nice name?

I'm sorry to report that last weekend my botanical assistant was too busy yak-yakking away with her blogging buddies to pay careful attention to the wildflowers we came across on our excursions in the Argyll area.

As a result, this week I have no close up flower photos for Rosy and the Gang's Flower Friday, and I am unsure whether the mauve-coloured blooms pictured above are field scabious or devil's-bit scabious. I think, judging by the damp meadow habitat, that the latter is more likely. Either way, surely 'scabious' is not a nice name for such pretty little plant?

I do know that the yellow flowers on the left of the picture are ragwort, and this 'weed' seems to have done particularly well in the unusually warm weather we've had here in Scotland this summer.

I would like to be able to promise that I'll do better next week, but with Gail imminently swanning off to the Edinburgh Festival for a few days and me being dispatched to neighbours Neil and Yvonne, I don't want to build unrealistic expectations, flower-wise.

  1. bertie that looks like a famous painting... a WHFT surrounded by wildflowers.. and this year the weather was perfect for meadows full of wildflowers we remember from our childhood ;O)

  2. Hari OM
That's an AbFab Foto Bertie lad!!! You made the best of a poor flower situation methinks &*> Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  3. Ya look great in da flowers, whatefur dey is called.

  4. The flowers surrounding you are so pretty, Bertie!

  5. Bertie Darlin' no worries humans cannot multitask very well. When mom was little her daddy used to say she could not walk and chew gum at the same time. Thankfully she go over that. I fear had mom been there during the visit she would have done the exact thing. Truth be told you look most handsome running among the not so nice name posies
    Hugs Madi your bfff

    1. Still not sure that Gail can walk and chew gum at the same time. Luckily, she is not a gum chewer!

    2. MOL Bertie
Since mom got a cavity under a very $$ dental bridge that had to be torn out and replaced she doesn't chew gum anymore either. Dentist said not to even chew sugarless!!
      Hugs Madi and mom

  6. Looks like you've found a great place fur your walkies Bertie....was there lots of pee-mails there, did you catch up on any gossip?
My peeps are rubbish at flower names so you can keep it simple for them, pretty yellow ones and pretty mauve ones would work for them
    Loves and licky kisses

  8. Well, at least you have a flower post, we have NONE!!! Mom says the summer heat has not treated Kansas very well and we have already shown all the flowers we have here. Ragwort and scabious - very odd names for such pretty blooms.

Woos - Lightning, Misty, and Timber

  9. Well, the drought here has put paid to any flowers this we think you did WELL. Especially, with an inattentive peep who should have been helping you!

  10. Those are still some pretty flowers and you looked handsome standing among them.

  11. We had no flower post either Bertie so don't feel bad. We wanted to post about the doves that are nesting in our tree but mom did not get it done and now we are busy at an obedience trial for a few days

  12. Well we think you looked very handsome with the wildflowers even if you didn't get a close up of them. They sound very interesting. Thanks for telling us about them.

  13. I think the flower named Bertie is the best looking one in these photos anyways! Also that looks like a very beautiful place.
