My super weekend at the Hilton

Humans can be quite a puzzle can't they?

I've just been away for the weekend with Gail and some of her friends. We all stayed at the Hilton Hotel in Coylumbridge, near Aviemore in the Scottish Highlands, for reasons far too boring to explain here.

Gail kept saying "you know Bertie this hotel isn't at all my sort of a place really, too big and busy, and lacking in character."

Extraordinary!

I thought it was simply fabulous.

The staff on the reception desk were so friendly.

They even gave me special 'doggy welcome pack' containing treats, poo bags and other good stuff.

There was a nice big TV in my bedroom so I could watch the rugby in comfort.

I can't think why Gail groaned when she heard that a 'hen party' from Glasgow were also staying at the hotel that weekend. Well I will admit to some disappointment on learning that a hen party does not involve real live chickens, but when I met chief hen/bride-to-be Kelly (from Dunbeath, not Glasgow, as it happens) I thought she was just lovely and couldn't at all understand Gail's concerns.

Plus there were loads and loads of little humans charging around the hotel, screaming and waving their arms in a most stimulating fashion. Sadly, Gail didn't share in my excitement. In fact, to be frank, she looked a little tense, and kept rushing me outside, exhorting me to enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of the surrounding forests.

Which is where we went for a walk and Gail took this 'team photo' (age range two to very nearly ninety).
In ascending height: Bertie, Gisèle, Françoise, Hilary, John

And of course, as is only right, she took lots more photos featuring just me.

So, yes, I'll concede the walks were fun too, and to be honest I'm glad I did not stop indoors to watch the Scotland rugby team lose to Italy, but oh I do so hope I can persuade Gail to take me for another stay at this wonderful hotel.

  1. Loving the tartan neckerchief Bertie. Will have to remember that Coylumbridge is four-legged friend friendly. Horatio wasn't so lucky this weekend and had to suffice with local walks. Wonderful weather though!

  2. The Hilton--and they welcomed you??!!! Of course, if they let in all those little bipeds, we should be allowed in.

Bertie, we always enjoy the scenery on your walks. Get Gail to take you on many more.

Hoomans cewtainly awe a puzzling speeshees.
I wish I could tell you that at the wise old age of five and a half, I undewstand them mowe, but sadly, they continoo to confoose.

Just as you mentioned on my bloggie about those useless lectooes, theiw lack of joy in simple scwitchies, welaxation on a nice soft bed, time spent chasing awound two and fouw leggeds is most puzzling. Thank dog you knew how to make the most of what looks to me to be a most wondewful and luxoowioos weekend

  6. I thought Bertie (handsome chap) looked very pleased with himself on Sunday morning, as he sat on Gail's knee while she read her book in the sunshine.

Kelly (from Dunbeath) and her hens had a great weekend at the Coylumbridge hilton.

  8. Hi Bertie, I totally agree with Gail regarding the little humans running around the hotel. They make me tense too. It sure looks like you had a great time on your hikes.

  9. Hey Bertie!
Wow, I think it sounds like a wonderful place! Little two-leggers are a blast and I'm so glad the hotel was pet-friendly. Looks like a fun place inside and the territory outside is beautiful! Nice group pix.

  10. I loves those little two-leggers, Bertie, they love to pet me, hug me and I feel great when they do. Soon our daycare neighbor will have the kids out playing and when she does, I'm going over for some loving!

    Kisses,
    Stella

  11. Great scenery, great walkies, and great hotel. I share your enthusiasm, and -as usual- Mom and Dad share Gail's concerns, but they agree with you and me that the hotel is pawesome. Mom and Dad also get really freaked out when there are too many little humans at a hotel :)
Dad always travels with his Bose noise-canceling headphones just in case...BOL!!!

  15. hey Bertie,

I love your hotel! Much nicer than a few I have stayed in. I don't understand your Gail either. Seems like you were living in luxury. Your big dog bed right in front of the TV is the way to live in style! ;->

The hen (bride) was very pretty and seemed very happy posing with your handsome self! And the scenery shots are gorgeous! What fun adventures you always take!

p.s. You look pawsome in your Scottish attire. :->

  16. We're with you, Bertie; any hotel that welcomes doggies with their own guest packet is a good hotel. Hope Gail had almost as much fun as you did.

  20. Bertie I'm with you. The Hilton looks like my kinda place too :) Mom on the other paw agrees with Gail. A quaint quiet B&B is more her style ;)

Looks like some beautiful outdoor walkies you took! Luv the lake in the background of the forest! :)

  21. Hey Bertie Bud,
That 'hens party' sure sounded inviting. (AFter visiting Frankies blog and seeing that you are scheduled for a squirrel cookout). You seem to be getting around big time!
The Scottish certainly do things with style. Not heard of a hotel around these joints which even allows doggies inside, let alone hands out doggie-packs. Huh?!
Mind you, I think I'd morph into my 'Hooligan' self if I visited one.

  22. Bertie, we just must come and visit Scotland. A hotel that welcomes doggies with a treat bag??? How cool is that. What a wonderful weekend you had. Thanks for sharing your photos! No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  23. Bertie I didn't know that the Hilton is dog friendly, its nice to see you got to go away for the weekend and welcomed so well, with the doggy bag and your own TV!
    The walk looked breath taking.
    Have a good week

  24. Oh Bertie dear, we too love to stay at the Hilton! The one in Bellevue, Washington even gave us each a lovely cloth bag to hold the goodies they gave us. And they provided us each a thick doggy bed too! Yes, it is the lap of luxury for us pooches. You must be a very obedient fellow to be outside without a leash being held. Thanks for making us look bad! Sheesh.
Glad you had a great time. Tell Gail to chill. bol.

  25. Hi Bertie - we have never heard of a doggie friendly HILTON!! Sooo cool!! You did look catered for lying on the bed watching the rugby. It's funny - the stuff that makes Gail groan is the same sorta stuff that makes my mum groan!!

Glad you got out and about in lovely surrounds!
