It's nae affa bonnie the day *...

The true picture of a typical walk in the Highlands of Scotland. At any time of the year (in Summer add midges). As seldom seen in the holiday brochures.
You know what? I might be prepared to relax the clothing ban and ask Santa for a raincoat this Christmas!

PS Thanks to Margaret for risking a waterlogged camera to take a photo of this soggy scene. There is a good reason why she only took the one ...

*Translation of title from NE Scots to English: It's not very nice weather today.

  4. We're Scottish and we wear raincoats in the USA - we think that you could give in and wear a rain coat in Scotland!!

PS - Ivy doesn't wear a rain coat - she adores the rain and plays in it for hours on end.

  6. If you can do it, we'll rethink our opposition to those screamingly bright yellow rain slickers Mom sometimes insists we wear....

  7. Hey Bertie:

If you Scots like to walk around in THAT kind of weather, you really should come to Minniesnowda for a visit. After mid-November, you could be up to your belly in snow and how fun would that be? Drop us a line and we'll make all the arrangements for you!.

    Cheers,
    Stella and Jo

  8. We hear that's kinda like the Northwest here in the States. We agree - those travel brochures never tell the real story. They never show pics of peeps and pups in Charleston hiding out in their air-conditioned houses when the temps soar above 100 or swatting off mosquitos the size of Buicks! BOL!
Glad the camera made it out safely!

  12. Bertie,

I finally understand why Golden Retrievers (first breed in Scotland) have a warm inner fur coat with a water resistant outer fur layer. I've always loved water and getting wet so I'd enjoy exploring the Scottish countryside with you!

  13. Bertie, we don't do clothes either, but from the looks of that place, you need something warm and waterproof!!

  17. What a great picture...who cares about the weather when you get to be outside. I could sit in the rain all day everyday if she'd let me:)

  18. The mum and dad have quite a few photos just like that from their last two trips to Scotland. And they said they can't wait to go back again some day soon. Humans - they're so silly. We hate to get wet!

  19. hey Bertie,

Looks like the past two days I have just lived through. Except your scenery is actually much more stunning than mine. :->

Very nice photo, you look so cute! And how good of you to sit so nicely for the photo! Especially in the rain!

p.s. We are so happy your Gail enjoyed the Lion of Lucerne. We liked her story on her Swiss Godmother. I hope one day to make it to Lucerne to see it in person. Except I have heard air travel for dogs has gone to the dogs. Hey, wait a minute!

  20. Too bad you can't export some of that rain to our drought-stricken midwest and southwest. If you could figure out a way to do that, you could make a fortune.

Did we miss a post? What Swiss Godmother?

  21. You know Bertie, I HATE clothes. But I think that sometimes you have to relax our normal values - especially when the weather looks like yours. Sheeeesh!!

I would totally understand a coat for you!

  23. Darling You must have missed chapter 4 1/2( I think this was Archies chapter) WE DO NOT WEAR COATS NEVER.... You are a man now and do not need one( personally I really don't see the problem in wearing a little protection although I will NOT walk NOT ONE STEP if something is placed on me and Archie WILL NOT PEE and he will walk sideways.. Soooo that is why we wrote that chapter( well he did)..... Stay dry( wipe yourself on her towel when you come in the house) Love A+A
