Cuddle your pet

I find it incomprehensible, but apparently people are getting upset because one of the big UK energy suppliers sent an email to customers telling them if they were worried about the cost of heating their homes this winter they should try cuddling their pets. Or eating porridge.

Both suggestions seem excellent ones to me, and regarding the cuddling proposition, I would like to demonstrate to my canine (and feline?) friends a variety of possible options to help keep your human warm.

Oh, and if sitting on laps is not your thing, why not take your human for a brisk walk, ideally off leash so you can run on ahead, ignoring their calls. They will be well warmed up by the time they've exercised their sprinting muscles to chase after you at speed, and if you repeat this several times, your human will not cool down again until long after you've returned to your chilly home.

I expect my friends will have other helpful suggestions on this topic. Please do share!

  1. fortunately mother nature had the solution with bringing 11c to us...

  2. My human and I are always having cuddles, even when the weather is warm and sunny. It's one of my favourite things to do in winter, especially in the evening when she sits down to watch TV. That's when I suddenly remember I need to keep going out to check on these pesky cats we've got in the garden. I don't know why she gets so uppity and tells me that it's only been ten minutes since I last checked! How do I know - I haven't got a watch? Do you know sometimes, if she's watching a good programme, she'll make me wait until the commercials, but if she's watching BBC then I have to wait for ever!
She says we'll by-pass the porridge - not her thing, but how can I tell what it's like when I've never tasted it?

  3. I try to sit on mom's lap, usually when fireworks or thunder is happening, but she's not keen on the idea as I weigh 70 pounds and want to put my full weight on her.

  4. Hari OM
Bertie lad, your demonstration is deserving of national distribution!!! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  5. Bertie I have one very very impawtant statement.
I have just declared this International keep your human warm day too. OMDs you have skills that I think are very valuable should you decide to hire out your cuddles.
BOL BOL on the sprinting to catch you. My mind's eye will never be able to UNsee your sprint on the train platform
    Hugs Cecilia

  6. I think both are excellent suggestions and of course the hug your BIG DOG is my favorite, if Beau gets in my lap like you did, Bertie, you will not see any of me in a selfie.. but he is an instant warmer and I am betting you are a perfect heater with your warm furs. Another suggestion they could send out is when you go to physical therapy with hubby, do all the things he does with him or come home and do them in your home. I did both and wow does that get the blood boiler going. five to 10 minuntes os stomping side ways Wow

  7. You sure are a good snuggler and are sure to warm Gail up in no time. We are a bit big for lap sitting but will happily lay along side or even drape our heads across our pawrents lap to help warm them up.

  8. We think you deserve an A+++ for all that cuddling and keeping Gail warm. We aren't lap dogs but we are great at footwarming:)

Woos - Lightning, Misty, and Timber

  9. So lion statues get scarves and people get cuddles. Sounds like good winter ideas.
Our hydro providers provide incentives for reducing electricity use during extremely cold, likely to be busy times. Our peeps try to follow it. It is hard when it is -36C outside. Lee and Phod

  10. At last the humans are finding out our worth? I don't know if you have tax credits but you should get one for being a dog.

  11. You are a very good boy for keeping everyone warm!
