Sun, sea and sand? Well, two out of three...

The sky was clear and blue in Aberdeen on Sunday and I was all excited when Gail said that she and her friend Kirsty were taking me for a walk to the Forvie Sands Nature Reserve, just a twenty minute drive up the coast.

My turn to experience a sunny day at the beach, having missed out last week!

I have to say that, as we proceeded through the dunes, Gail's earlier application of sunblock was looking a tad optimistic.

I was a good boy and stayed the right side of the fence marking the 'no go' area where four species of tern are nesting in the sands at this time of year.

Gail and Kirsty paused a moment to admire the sharply defined delicacy of the birds swooping overhead, but I soon lost patience with matters ornithological.

After about a mile we reached the deserted beach and I overheard Gail trying to talk herself and Kirsty into believing that the sea fog was in fact a blessing, as it meant we had the place to ourselves and I wouldn't get too hot.

However, I'm not sure she was convinced that my intense interest in decomposing substances on the beach was also a blessing...

  2. I say, that seems to be a "sunny" day for the Aberdeen area! Glad you found something scrumptious, Bertie!

  3. It looks as though you had the beach to yourselves, Bertie. That can't be bad, as you had first choice of all the "delectables" you found!
We had a walk beside the beach this morning, but doggies are not allowed on the sand, so we stayed on the promenade. It was nice and sunny, but now the weather has changed and it's raining with thunder and lightening and a strong wind! Glad we had our walk when we did!

  4. Ohhh a walk with two very fine ladies Bertie, who both adore you to bits in spite of your WFT's nose for the decomposed.
I giggled at this: "lost patience with matters ornithological". I must admit I would have been right there with Gail and Kirsty.

  6. we all three love alone places and misty is good once in a while. it looks fun to me and now I am wondering if anyone might have rolled in that decomposing STUFF. hope not.... once my friend Diane and I were in a state park, she had her dog with her, we were both taking photos like crazy and realized Sammie was rolling her neck and head in some dead smelly animal. oh nooo. we used handy wipes and bottle water and had to ride home with that smell..

  7. Beautiful! The beach in the mist is great for walking, and Gail is right, it's nice not to get too hot! And stinky stuff at the beach? That sounds like the best day ever!

there is something, Bertie lad, to be said for the atmosphere of a fine Scottish haar that lends and estoric dimension to one's walk. It is also a sign of summer temperatures at sea. Then again, due to it's rarity, seeing the sun for oneself does rather take precedence so the sooner the haar burns off the better! Glad you found something to equal interest with the ornithological. 9. How nice that you had the place all to yourselves even if you could hardly see the sea.

  10. Wow Bertie...this could be my beach, fog and all. Especially the fog, but also the delicious smelling decomposing stuff!

  11. We think we would be content with the sand and the sea sans the sun. Sadly we don't think we will ever get to see the sea. Nice day for you and the gals, Bertie.

  15. Did you roll in the decomposition Bertie!!! Did you! Huh! Huh! I, Cinnamon, will do a dive roll into the stinky goodness (if I can) before Mom can catch me! Generally it means a bath when we get home, but it can be so worth it!
