A brush with nature (wiry coat needed)

I'm pleased to report that a revised interpretation of our government's social distancing guidelines says you can drive somewhere to exercise so long as your exercise time is much longer than your car journey.

So this week Gail had the bright idea of taking me to explore a bit of Durris Forest about half an hour's drive from our house. She chose a route we'd not done before, in a little frequented part of the forest.

It was all going so well...

...until we veered off the main track and tried to follow a footpath marked on the map but less clear at ground level...

Did you know that wire-haired fox terriers were bred to have coarse, wiry coats to protect them from getting scratched by the undergrowth when pursuing foxes to earth?

I think Gail was feeling a little envious of my furs by the time we regained the proper track!

Happy Nature Friday friends! And thanks once again to our dear friends Arty, Jakey and Rosy for hosting this our favourite blog hop.

  1. we love your rules much better than ours... we have one hour per day and 1 kilometer around your home is the limit... ;O(

    1. We have the same here in Spain, but with severely restricted hours! From 6 a.m. - when it's still dark! to 10 a.m. then from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.! But we can't go twice a day!

Well done for taking full advantage of the dispensation, Bertie and Gail!!! (Though I hope there weren't too many scratches on the furless one.) Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  3. A wiry terrier coat would come in handy.

  4. You lucky boy Bertie, you do get some super walks.
We still can't get into our cars to drive anywhere for a walk, so it's not much fun for anyone living in the centre of town. We are looking forward to a walk along by the sea, but don't know when that will be!

  5. And we also have wire coats which are naturally stripped as we run through that tough stuff, but since that rarely happens, we have to have it done with a stripping brush. Glad you found the main path again.

  7. Bertie what a great title today.
I thoroughly enjoyed your trek thru the thicket and 3 cheers for the WFT attire. I know you and Gail are happy to be able to visit new trails

  8. That sure doesn't look like a well worn path you were on. Good thing you have such a tough coat Bertie.

  9. Does look like your coat is superior to Gail's.

Now, how many walks in how many days do you need to go to Torredon for exercise....hmmmmm.

  11. Your coat is like your amour! They are reopening some of our green space next week - in your area - as long as distancing is occurring. That is nice for people who don't have a lot of space like us.

  12. You all really did get off the beaten path! How fun for you Bertie, and not so fun for Gail!

  13. I think that we all need a wiry coat like yours. My legs are all scratched up from following narrow paths like yours.

I love every glimpse of your countryside that you give us. It's so lovely. I'm glad that you can visit some new places now!
