Happy Easter to all my friends!
Many of us will not be able to spend the day in the way we might wish. For those of you who, like Gail and me, are a bit cut off from friends and family just now, we hope you will be able to join us for an Easter Sunday morning expedition.
We start, of course, from our home in Aberdeen, and through the familiar territory of Duthie Park.
Then it's on to the riverside path, where massed ranks of daffodils are still out in force.
Across the Bridge of Dee, we pause to read the board telling you all about the history of this structure, which dates back to medieval times. As Gail's eyes are drawn to the sentence 'Burgesses were posted on the bridge to prevent the spread of plague into the burgh', I observe the third police car of the morning driving past. There is little other traffic on the road.
Further along the riverside path, another sign warns us off going for a swim. Neither Gail nor I find this instruction hard to obey.
A short climb away from the river takes us up into Tolohill Wood, where the spring flowers are, finally, tentatively, beginning to appear.
In the distance, we can look across to the church spires and more recent high rise buildings of Aberdeen's city centre.
Back down the hill, a farm track leads us into a squeaky clean new housing estate,
Then this time we go under the bridge, where I enjoy a welcome sip of nice cool river water.
Continuing homewards, we note that the playing fields are all but deserted, the footballers presumably practicing keepie uppie in their back yards.
And into the home straight, where the waters of the Duthie Park pond are for once undisturbed by the usual Sunday morning flotilla of noisy model boats.
Well done to those of you who managed to make it all the way round with us. That was a whole five and a half miles! For sure, we all deserve a nice juicy chunk of roast lamb and, for the humans, an extra bite of Easter egg.

ReplyDelete..well, I'll have to make do with a bite of Aero, but I appreciate the sentiment! Thanks for that fabulous outing, Bertie. I did better than I thought I might (nudge/wink!). Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
OMDaffies Bertie I don't think I have ever seen that many Daffodils in one place. They are just breathtaking and you have sun too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a splendid and most entertaining walk you and Gail took. I hope there were no giant bunnies hopping around looking for eggs.
5 1/2 miles you 2 deserve a lamb roast EACH.
Hugs and as always thank you for sharing your beautiful City of Aberdeen
Cecilia
PS meant to say the new housing estate looks like what we see over here except you Chimneys are different. It is a very pretty area.

Those daffodils are stunning - what a great display.
ReplyDeletePhew, Bertie that was some walk you took us on, but we managed to keep up, though we're a bit puffed and need to sit down for a while!
In days gone by my human says she would often walk those sort of distances with her very first Lab. Sultan. They were very fit, but of course she was very, very, very much younger then, (but I don't think I should remind her!). Today we have had just two short walks but more than we're supposed to do. We do miss our lovely long walks by the sea.
Take care now both of you, because we're looking forward to some more lovely walks with you.
Love,
Inca xx
What a beautiful walk! We love the photo of you wading through thousands of daffies, Bertie! Happy Easter to you and Gail.
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking us on a wonderful walk Bertie. What a lovely spring day you are having, it is going to rain here. It may rain so much there could be flooding. People are worried as we have had massive floods in our area for several years but this year there will be no volunteers to help.
ReplyDeleteWe will be having chicken tonight, yum.
Happy Easter!
Oh, look at all those beautiful daffodils!!! Thank you for showing us those as we walked along with you on your beautiful walk. We love learning about different places in the world and we do learn a lot from your posts.
ReplyDeleteBTW, that was the ONLY good shot Mom got of Timber - he so very much was not happy about those ears at all. Lightning at almost 9 years of age, has learned to just put up with it.
Happy Easter from all of us!
Woos, Lightning and Timber
That walk was fantastic. We enjoyed it. Lots of interesting things to see and sniff. Seems some things never change...old plague/new plague.
ReplyDeleteThere is no better way to start an Easter morning than with a long walk even if there isn't a big dinner at the end.
ReplyDeleteOh Bertie, what a refreshing, beautiful and historical Easter walk!! Thanks so much for letting us tag along!
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter!!

Thank you for taking us along on your lovely walk Bertie! It was a very quiet Easter for us, usually we have breakfast for all the family and an egg hunt for the grands. Hopefully we will be able to do it next year

Thanks for taking us along on your Easter walk Bertie. We just love those fields of daffodils.
ReplyDeleteThe history of Bridge Dee Lee is always fascinated by the past. To walk on stones that people crossed in 1527. Goes Gail ever wonder if her ancestors back in those times walked that bridge and did they have a companion like you Bertie.
ReplyDeleteSweet William The Scot
Those daffodils are BRILLIANT!!! Seriously, I'd just plop down next to those and stare/sniff - Wow!!!!! Alas, I'd miss the rest of your fascinating walk. I love your bridge. Thanks for bringing us along!
ReplyDeleteWe loved going along with you on your Easter walk! You saw a little bit of everything and had great together time with Gail. Times are hard, but we are glad that you have each other!
