Bed-loving Bertie's Blog?

Shall I let you into a wee secret?

Nothing to excite MI5 admittedly. It's just that the whole 'Bouncing Bertie' thing is not, these days, an accurate description of my usual demeanour at the break of day in the middle of winter here in Scotland.

In fact Gail has suggested perhaps I should consider renaming this blog 'Bed-loving Bertie'.

In my view, when a chap reaches middle age, he is entitled to a lie in every once in a while.

That said, once I am up and about, and especially when staying at our cottage in Torridon, there is something a bit special about our early morning rambles.

Or perhaps I should say early-ish morning. Here I am yesterday beside the footpath to Wester Alligin sign at a quarter to nine a.m., and it is just light enough for Gail's smartphone camera to capture my handsome figure posing against the loch in the stillness of dawn.

  1. What a gorgeous view of the world you have Bertie. Definitely worth getting of bed for early-ish in the morning. Enjoy your strolls.

  3. Bertie - Best to get up early. It gets dark soon enough.

  4. WE don't get up TOO Early...However, we do go Out and About... and then we like to head BACK to Bed... or COUCH or Cliner Chair... ANY place where we can have a WEE Warm Nap.
It is OUR RIGHT... We have EARNED this small luxury... at our stage in life. RIGHT?

  5. Light at 8:45..sheesh. Though it is getting light later, here, we can be out at 5:30 with enough light to untangle leads.

We agree with Frankie and Ernie. You have the right to sleep late. We're expecting temp of 39°C today, and 41°C later this week. So we'll be doing lots of lying around all day.

  6. BUTT you are still bouncing in your heart! Mom said to tell you that the split antlers are MUCH better since all the marrow is exposed. We tried the NOT split ones and didn't like them at all.

  7. You do look very comfy cosy, all snuggled up in bed, but we always thought you were an early riser, just like us. You have such busy days with all your scientific works, and experiments.
We're all up around 7 a.m. in the winter, and much earlier in the summer ! We're used to being up when it's still dark, though we don't go for a walk until early afternoon when it's not so cold.

  8. I agree with you completely, Bertie. Now that I'm a mature gentleman, I do a lot more lounging around than bouncing.

  12. We think it is important that you have as much rest and relaxation as possible during the winter months. Come summer you can go back to bouncing again.
