Ambassadog result: One lovestruck fox terrier...

Within moments of arriving for my Ambassadog interview at Prestonfield House, my heart was all a flutter.

Some of the others on the shortlist were frolicking with a ball, but I had no time to waste. There was one particular dog I was keen to meet.

I'd watched and admired her wee video. But when I saw her in the flesh I realised that nothing could have prepared me for such overwhelming beauty.

Oh my word was there ever a more fragrant rear end? It was love at first sniff.

Gail tried to get me to socialise with the other pups...

...but Fenton, the Sheltie from Shetland, was the only girl for me! Oh what a vision of loveliness! And yes, I was thrilled to learn she really is named after "FENTON!!!!" of YouTube fame. Such distinction...

I just couldn't leave her alone.

OK so the other pups were cute and stuff,

And golden retriever George from Glasgow, the winner of the Ambassadog title, is undoubtedly a handsome fellow (and surprisingly well-mannered, for a 'Weegie'…)

But oh I have eyes only for Fenton.

Saying goodbye was almost more than I could bear.

As soon as I arrived home, I was onto the internet and looking up timetables. The next ferry to Shetland leaves from Aberdeen Harbour this evening.

Can anyone offer tips on how to become a stowaway? Would it help if I wore my Shetland wool jumper?

PS from Gail: when Bertie has recovered from his overwrought state (and apologised to Addi for his shockingly unfaithful behaviour) he will tell you about a rather more cerebral adventure inside Prestonfield House.

  1. Oh Bertie, we're so sorry that you didn't win the title, but you did very well indeed to reach the finals. You're still one of the nine best dogs is Scotland - that's really something ! All was not lost though, was it, if you met the gorgeous Fenton !
You're still the champ in our eyes.

  5. Ohhhhhhhhhhh Bertie,
You should have been selected as the runner up to George. I mean what if he has a prior engagement who will do his duties? At least you were so in love you probably didn't even realize George to the title. Fenton is a very very lovely Sheltie. Addi needs to find out what fragrance Fenton uses.
You will always be our Ambassadog Bertie!!
I purrsonally think it was a very high compliment to you and Gail being in the top 9. I know folks always say this when one doesn't win but it is true that was some tough competition

    1. George is owned by identical twin sisters, so if one was busy the other could easily fill in and no-one would know. Of course Golden George will have to work hard, not having the advantage of a body-double!

Well I have to say Bertie lad, I like your taste... I watched all those vids and if I had a 'second choice' from you it was, in fact, Fenton!!! Then the gorgeous Blaze from Skye... and on downwards to George as #9 on my particular list. I kid you not. Tsk. Shows what I know about ambassahead-hunting...

You are my #1 still, laddie!!! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  8. Bertie! We were shocked to see the news about the Ambassadog selection! We thought the Scots had better decision making powers. It would be much less expensive to feed you than some Golden Retriever! Just sayin' man. However, the lovestruck act probably did not help your cause any, but I am sure you have heard that already, and that may be what your were planning.

  15. George won ~ just a common name like George won. Why that is just not right. Bertie maybe your butt sniffing kind of took the Ambassadog title out of your paws. I think your got robbed. That Golden put that Fenton in the contest to distract you.
So sorry I thought you had Ambassadog won.
    Thanks for being a friend
