Neighbours exposed! A tree! A birthday!

A big storm came through Aberdeen the other night, and our neighbour's recycling box blew over.

It seems they had put the wine bottles at the base and covered them with water bottles before putting the box out in the street for collection.

I wonder why they would do that?

Do you know what your neighbours are drinking this festive season?

On to a different topic. I didn't really want to show you this next picture, 'cos I don't much like being outshone. But Gail thinks some of you might to see the Christmas tree we chose so carefully last weekend. She also bought a new set of lights and boy are they bright!

Oh and finally. In my role as Bertie Boffin, Scientific Advisor to Blogville, I am pleased to announce that next Monday (14th December) I shall be celebrating on this blog a very special scientific birthday. I wonder if any of you can guess what my post will be about?

  3. A slight blush here... I was known to take such action when we had a bottles only box. Now we have an "everything mixed together" recycling box and it then is sorted at a local centre. Much easier to spread and hide the "evidence". The tree is a nice size and the lights are very bright aren't they? Are they hooked up to your own wind farm?

  4. Bertie my momma knows the reason: if you drink wine (a lot) and you are still able to place the bottles in a box, you need a lot of water.... because that water will wash the wine with all after- and sideffects away... vice versa it wouldn't work. that's called Boozologics :o) your tree is an artpiece... to you think I will see the light when I look over the channel in your direction?

  9. Looks like the neighbors like a sip or two or three or four BOL! Those must be LED lights on your beautiful tree. They are extra bright. Now, the 14th . . . hmmm . . . is it something about a flyby of Venus?

  12. Hello, Bertie! I have enjoyed all of your photos, although I have been slow to comment. It is very interesting to see others' "neighborhoods" and environs. Bertie, could you be referring to the birthday of Sir William Watson Cheyne, born 14 Dec 1852? I confess I had to look up his entire name and check his birth date, but I did remember that he was a Scottish surgeon (educated at Aberdeen University--which is the basis of my selecting him) who was advocated the use of antiseptic methods in surgery. It helps to have a mate who sells antiquarian books, with a specialty in medicine. Of course, I may be wrong :)

    1. Hello Fay, I'm very impressed by your research, but, to use an appropriately canine metaphor, I'm afraid you are barking up the wrong tree this time. (Great idea for a future post though!)
