My eye. Boo hoo.

"So Bertie, what's all this about then?" asked Gail, waving her mobile phone in my face in a slightly confrontational manner when she arrived home from work at the usual time last night.

Apparently she had received a text message from my dog walkers earlier in the day.

Hi Gail. I tried calling you but as there was no answer I am texting to say that Bertie got a small scratch today when George had him out. As they turned a corner a cat darted out and before George could do anything the two made contact. The result was a small scratch above the eye. George used an antiseptic wipe to clean it. When George took Bertie back to the house the bleeding had stopped but you might want to check it out yourself. I thought it best to explain this on the phone rather than a note. If you want to phone me you can get me on this number. Regards, Elizabeth.

You would think, wouldn't you, that someone who loved and cared for their pet, on hearing this news would have immediately rushed back to check up on his wellbeing, if necessary abandoning important business, and spending the rest of the day administering comforting cuddles and plentiful treats.

Not so Gail.

No, with her it's all a brusque and unsympathetic "let's have a look at the eye, there now it seems fine to me, really Bertie I hope this will teach you a lesson not to get into scraps with cats, you should know by now that they always win in the end, you simply must be more sensible in future."

I am still sulking.

PS from Gail - I did in fact take Bertie to be examined by the vet this morning and he confirmed that no serious damage had been done. Except possibly to Bertie's self esteem.

    Bertie, you munro-clambering, forest-fossicking, cool-camping doooooood - a little scratch from a puddy-tatt? AAwwwwww, snookums.

Then again, the SIZE of the cat was not mentioned - it may indeed have been a wild mountain bobcat. Perhaps that black panther the world has been trying track for 87 centuries? Gail was wise to have it checked in case it turned out to be that rare species the Dandy Lion...

  10. So ein böser Überfall.
Ich bin froh, dass du nicht böse verletzt wurdest, sondern nur einen Kratzer hast.

  11. I hate to say it Bertie but Gail has a point. You need to know the cat to make sure that it's "a friendly one".
But you have my sympathy and I hope you recover soon.
I'm sure that Gail is rushing out to buy you extra treats as I write this...

  12. You'll get that cat NEXT time, we're sure! No way are you going to give up over a minor flesh wound.

Also, we had to borrow our sunglasses--and Bella's in the last group photo were a pair of HERS darkened with a texta...BOL! Maybe Gail doesn't know anyone in Scotland with sunglasses.

  17. Uh, Bertie? Were you by any chance TEASING the cat? They really hate that and might feel the urge to give you a slap. So Gail took you to the vet, and the vet said only your pride was hurt. Sorry to hear that, little guy.

    Cheers,
    Stella

  20. This is very upsetting and I am concerned for your well being. Not only are you exposed to life threatening situations on your walkies, but your Gail has shown a callous disregard for your health and mental status by being so gruff with you.

The only high point is the possibility of a small scar where your person was insulted. I understand that the gals love a chap who has a bit of rough trade about him.

    Kisses,
    Dexter

That's not so good about your eye! Cats can be nasty, I hope the cut gets better soon! It's good though that you've been able to enjoy that sunshine! Don't sulk!
Pippa was having a good look for you on Sunday at Duthie Park, even though I told her you were away!

    1. Oh Pippa, I am so disappointed, Gail says she has another engagement so we probably won't make it. Will you be able to go and tell us all about it? We saw this morning that pedal boats have appeared on the boating lake. Maybe you could get a ride/
