Keeping your human in order

Us pups are creatures of habit, right?

We know exactly what should happen when, and find it most disturbing when our humans forget the rules.

Take my morning walk, for example.

I know the drill, every step of the way.

Gail gets out of bed, has a shower, comes down to the kitchen, stops by my bed to say hello and give me a wee tummy tickle, then consumes her bowl of muesli and precisely and one and a half mugs of tea. After which she puts on her coat (and hat, and scarf and gloves, at this time of year), clips on my lead, and we're out the front door. Turn left and five minutes later we reach the park entrance and only then I am allowed off my lead and we complete our anti-clockwise circuit round the park, pausing now and then to greet all the other early morning regulars.

But sometimes Gail gets things terribly wrong.

Yesterday morning for example. We were only about half way to the park and Gail dropped hold of my lead. Incredible. It was as if she didn't realise where we were.

Well I can tell you, I stopped dead in my tracks and looked up at her, to let her know that she had made a serious error, and that she was still supposed to be attached to me at this point, whatever was she thinking of?

I am pleased to report that, on recognising her mistake, Gail immediately picked up my lead and from then on things proceeded according to plan.

I do hope nothing irregular happens today.

  1. Bertie,
Perhaps you should be the one holding the lead in your mouth with the other end of the lead firmly attached to Gail !

  2. Bertie, you always have to be prepared for the unexpected. Humans do some daft things at times. We're glad you were alert and pulled her into line so quickly.

  3. We agree with Scotsmad. Humans need to be supawvised all the time. We know how stressful that can be. Have a wonderful Wednesday Bertie.

  5. Hee hee, we are surprised you didnt run off but then routine is big for us dogs. We like to go the same route in for our morning walkies and we like to get up in the same order when we get up from bed. We also sleep in the same spots in the big bed each night

  6. It's amazing Bertie that Gail didn't wander off and get lost!

You just keep letting her think she's walking YOU.

  7. Oh Geez Bertie I hear you! I've been trying to train my mom for 10 years and let me just say it is an ongoing project. Just when I think she has master a task it has to be repeated. If Gail continues to slip you might want to put the lead around her neck...just sayin' MOL

  9. OMD OMD BERTIE... THIS is SERIOUSLY SCARY.. SHE could have run into the Street and been hit by a CAR.. She could have taken off after a bunch of other Peeps. She could have wandered away and NEVER be found again.
MY GOODNESS. It is JUST a Miracle that YOU are so AWARE and CONCERNED fur her SAFETY.
PEEPS... they are just millstones round our necks.

  12. She dropped your lead? She DROPPED your LEAD?? Sounds like you were too shocked to even run off. Probably the right approach. Could have been a trick. Here's hoping the routine returns to normal tomorrow!

  13. Yes, our people can be hard to train. You must give them positive reinforcement. Lots of licks and tail wags...silly, but they seem to like it!
