Oh I do like to be beside the seaside? (+ gluey ears!)

Can you believe we have this beach in Aberdeen, the sea is less than two miles from my, sorry our home, and yet Gail didn't take me down there until a couple of days ago.

Something about waiting for warm weather, apparently. Will she ever learn? Hello Gail? We live in Aberdeen! Summer took place on 18 June. Oh you blinked and missed it? That's too bad.

Actually folks (and I'm a teeny bit embarrassed to admit this, especially to Uncle Eric) I did find it scary at first.

Yes and Gail was so busy chuntering on about enjoying the magnificent sense of semi-infinite space etc. etc. it didn't occur to her that I might be feeling rather overwhelmed and not quite ready to go splashing about in the water, which, by the way, tastes nasty and salty, not at all like the stuff that comes out of the tap.
And then I kept finding weird things.
Most disturbing. Animal, vegetable or mineral, or alien anti-matter?
Well it was a lot to take in, so I sat down for a ponder.
And then decided it was good fun after all.
I hope we can go again soon..

PS I don't know if you've noticed but something funny has happened to my ears. Gail has glued them down to my forehead! She says it's just while I'm teething, to make sure they don't start sticking up too much. A wire-haired fox terrier vanity thing apparently. Quite what teeth have got to do with ears is a mystery to me, but I guess she's the pack leader round here, or so she likes to think. So anyway, as I don't feel any different, with or without the glue (and I can assure you that the world will know if I start to get uncomfortable) I've decided to humour her on this one for the moment.

PPS For those of you that are interested in facts and figures, I now weigh 4.5 kg (i.e. just under 10 lb), despite having lost 3 teeth this week. And I am over a foot tall!

  3. Oh we like your new Header pic! What great pics of you at the beach.
Now don't worry we both found the beach quite scary at first - it was so big!
We had never heard that noise before either - you know those wave things.
Nobody told us not to drink the water either but it is nasty.
Now we don't know anything about this ear glueing business - can you ask Gail if this is where we have gone wrong!
Certainly you don't want ears like ours - you keep stepping on them!
We are going to start working on those lost teeth - don't worry we should be able to sniff them out and get them back to you.
You are growing up to be just perfect Bertie.
    love and kisses

  4. Hey Bertie!

I love the beach, we don't have the salt water one here, just freshwater, but we can have big waves now and then! Now Bertie, never be ashamed to admit you are a little scared, its OK to be that way then get over it. Me, I'd be scared to have my ears glued down!

I love your new header as well, you always look so excited and happy.

    Kisses,
Stella, who is always happy to hear Hamish would be proud of me!

  5. Isn't the beach just swell? I'm hoping Mom will take me back down there later today when it cools off a bit. (Thought I still have to watch out for big dogs until my injury is all healed up.) I don't particularly like to swim but I do like to run into the ocean to my shoulders and then lie down. Ahhhhh! Of course, the water temperature here is now 85 degrees farenheit. Still prefer it to a bath!

    Your pal,

    Uncle Petey

P.S. Go back and look at Eric's funny photos when his 2-leggeds let his ear hair grow out to weigh down his ears! Hee-larious!

  6. Gluey ears! BOL!! How funny! And you know...I had the exact opposite issue. They were worried my left ear would not stand up. They were considering wrapping it, but then one day I just woke up and there it was...standing on top of my head like it should. I'm sure yours will be just fine too one day. And there isn't anything cuter that a WFT with one ear up and down...ask the Barkalot Boyz.

The first time I went to beach, I was skeered too. I had to bark at the water. The Mr. didn't want to overwhelm me so he took me to a little cove, but still, the water lapped up and made slappy noises, which I don't like at all. I just barely put my tootsies in the water and I did take a drink when he wasn't looking and then barfed in the car on the way home. You have a nice wide beach for running about...and it's nice you are off leash. You must be very good about coming back to Gail for her to trust you off leash. We knew you'd be the star pupil in puppy class!

You are growing sooo TALL! And you look all properly square. You are taller than me now! I know you'll come to love the beach...lots of birdies to chase and lots of crabs to dig up...the occasional dead thingy to roll in!

    sniffies,
    Bonnie

  8. We noticed how much you've grown on your new header.

Australia is surrounded by beaches. In fact, it's known for its beaches AND we've never been because we live too far in-land--at least 5 hours away! What a bummer. It looks like so much fun!

PeeS. our verification word is welly.....do you need them at the beach?

  10. Our Mom didn't know about the gluey ear thing when they brought me home -- so I started out life with two pawfect ears -- and then one day, my right ear popped up and gave me that debonair look for which I am now known.

That beach looks like so much fun -- and we are so imprssed that you are off leash. You must be a very good boy to have so much freedom!!!

    Wirey love,

  11. Oh Bouncemeister Bertie. How I wish O could be there with you. Just give me a couple of weeks to recover some more and I show you BEACH.
We like it best when the weather is mad and stormy, matching our own temperament so never mind you don't get a summer up there..

  12. The beach is a really cool place to run and play, but we don't get to go very often because it is a day's drive away.

  14. My Grandpa Angus used to get his ears glued too until he put a stop to it. Subsequently, his ears were a bit sideways, but I think he heard better that way.

  18. Bertie my boy! Don't worry about being nervous of new thingies. I'm like that all the time. Why the other day I was terrierfied of a man laying under his car. Why would he do that?

Your beach looks smashing now it's got you on it. Were you fortuate enough to find something brown bread to roll in? I don't like the evil water myself and yikes - certainly wouldn't swim in it. Now did Gail did do the proper thing and buy you a 99 (the flake is for her Bertie, no chocolate for you) after you visited the Beach? It's a tradition you know. If not I will do as you requested and post you one dear boy.

You're coming on so nicely to be a proper up grown foxy square. About 4" more to go so take it slooooow. I'm wagging your gluey ears aren't bothering you. Don't ever let on to Gail that glue smell makes you a little more wired too will you?

Wiry love from your proud Uncle E xx

  19. Perhaps if we had been exposed to the beach when we were just pups, we wouldn't be so overwhelmed now. But that doesn't mean we don't love it! We just go and relax on a blanket, near the surf, watching and listening and taking in all the sniffs. In fact, last night we watched the full (?) moon rise and felt the gentle breezes.

We'd better stop the description here. We're not sounding at ALL like terriers. And we don't want to ruin the reputation.

Go for it, Bertie! Splash and bounce around! And we'll watch and maybe even learn from you, little guy!

Loving the seaside (where our ears flap 'cause of the off-shore breeze)

  20. HAHAHAHAHA!!! Oh Bertie...we just read your post about you clearin' things up for us about puppy class...um...you know when they hug you so tightly? That's called RESTRAINT...I'm surprised they never put Scruffy in a straight-jacket, but I digress...

Yes, yes, I went to puppy class um once? I refoosed to cooperate and Mumsie was too lazy to continue...but the boyz both had extensive training. Not that it did much good from my point of view...

As for that ear gluey thing? I have a big bottle of adhesive remover for ya Bertie...or the relentless hooge Mango can give ya a bottle of his suds...

Both Scruffy and I were glued. Mumsie said somethin' bout gluin' my mouth shut, but she was all hot air about that...

Yep...Stan's ears weigh about fifty pounds each...no glue needed for the big Dale...

    Good luck with that!

    Kisses,

    Laciegirlie

  21. Hello Bertie! Pleased to meet you!

oh I love the beach at Aberdeen, my human bruv used to live there, and we used to visit him, and I would go for a long, long run on the beach!

The Humans then went to eat, somewhere I think called Frankie and Bennies, wherever it was I was NOT allowed to go inside.

My Jeannie said it was darn cold on the beach that day, but I mean, what does she expect on an Aberdeen beach in February!!

  22. glue on the ears... we had that too. Maisie's glue worked, mine didn't. I have really thick ears, they didn't want to flip over. So glad you liked the beach, and we hope you get to go back.
