How long did your house take to build?

It seems scarcely possible after so many walks within Aberdeen city limits over the past year, but earlier this month a neighbourhood stroll took us down a street we'd not explored before.

We stopped to look more closely at the plaque on this house.

Gail says that perhaps Mr W. J. Anderson could have taught the builder working on the Torridon cottage a thing or two about timely project completion.

In our Torridon builder's defence, we recognise that the Jubilee house construction did not involve creating a new opening in an existing supporting wall made of super-sized boulders...

The good news is that the building work is now essentially complete and later in the week Gail and I are heading over to Torridon with dustpan and brush (and nearly-new vacuum cleaner kindly donated by our friend YAM-aunty).

It's going to be a busy time at the cottage, so I am getting in training.

  1. Bertie we are with you... we think Mr. Anderson should come to France... we really need him... we are the country what has a law against the stretching of constrution projects to the max ;O)

  2. Gosh Bertie that was a pretty quick build. My human says she wished the men who built our house had been as quick.
How nice it will be for you both to see the cottage ready to live in. You'll have to show us lots of photos.

    Love,

Two days. TWO DAYS??!!! (Well, 5/6 working days - but still.) Pink string and sealing wax probably, but let's not quibble for there it still stands.

As for the cottage - all the equipment on that vacuum will help Gail to reach into all the corners and lift the more stubborn bits and I am so glad that you will be rested and ready to snoopervise! Hugs and wags YAM-aunty xxx

  5. Jumping Catfish Bertie...WooHoo the jubilation I heard in the wee hours of today must have been you and Gail. That is a super duper king size boulder for sure. Too bad you were not there to oversee the work. I know moss never gathers under the paws of a WFT.
Thank goodness you can have all the windows and doors open while you and the sucking monster work on the clean up.
Looking forward to the AFTER photos.

  9. That boulder that the cottage builders are working around is HUGE! And really do you want a house that was built in 50 hours? Seems like maybe a corner or two was cut! Good things come to those who wait, right? looking forward to seeing the finished cottage, how exciting!
