Behind schedule?

So a couple of friends have been asking if the renovation and remodelling work on the Torridon cottage is yet complete.

While politely reminding my readers that this is supposed to be a dog blog and not a home improvement blog, I am happy to take you for a wee sniff around inside the cottage to see how things are going.

So what do you think?

Gail recalls how when she first bought the cottage (November 2002) a German neighbour warned her the prevailing attitude in the NW Highlands was deep suspicion of the 'mañana' concept as it implied far too much haste! Over the past few months, the pandemic and associated restrictions + Brexit + Highland Council's slow processing of a building warrant + the particular vagaries of the builder, have all combined to make for slow progress. The delays were to some extent anticipated, and Gail is working hard (and mostly succeeding) at not getting too frustrated by the situation...

And who can feel cross for long when just behind the cottage there are mountains to explore?

That's more like it!

  2. It all looks very interesting, Bertie, and we're glad you managed to get out for a lovely walk.
My human loves the cottage and says that if we ever have to come back to the UK, she would like something just like yours, and in such lovely surroundings. Of course, the weather would have to improve before we made the move. My worry is - who would knit me such lovely sweaters like yours, to keep the cold out? I'm not used to chilly winters and haven't ever seen snow!

    Love,

Oh there is some progress from the last visit - just not a lot! Surely with the oncoming 'better weather' (I did not the tumble dryer..) and potential 'opening up' from lockdown and 'tiers', things should start to move a little faster? As you say, there is always the mountain walks to balance things out. Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  4. Dearest Bertie
Even w/o all the restrictions and roadblocks at your cottage renovations are the cause of nightmares. You are 100% correct the views of hills, valleys, water falls and your handsome self are calming.
Maybe by summer's end you will be in.
    Hugs Cecilia

  5. As long as you can be reasonably comfortable while living among the renovation work it's always nice to visit your cottage. You sure look happy to be exploring the hills. We have our paws crossed that the work starts moving faster so it will be done soon.

    1. Gail says: it depends if you call one cold water tap and a kettle "reasonably comfortable"! Tolerable now the weather's getting warmer.

  10. Have fun mountain climbing:) We figured it was a work in progress, albeit slow. It was hard to find workers for some things here too. Now we need our carpets cleaned and our favorite carpet cleaner has closed his business:(
