How long are you?

We saw this sign outside the Long Dog Café yesterday.

I am 60 cm long, so here in Scotland humans would need to stand at least three and a third Berties apart when queuing.

Sadly, this dog-friendly café, which is a convenient walk of about a mile from our Aberdeen home, was closed. Gail says she wants to make sure that, pandemic or no pandemic, I don't totally forget my "restaurant manners" so we marched on a little further and tried out a relatively new establishment, the Orka Artisan Café, where dogs are also welcome.

At 11ºC and a light NW wind, it was warm enough (just) for well wrapped humans to sit comfortably outside. The nice waitress asked if I was allowed a treat, and then complimented me on the gentle way I took the gravy bone from her hand. I thought this might have meant a second treat would be forthcoming but that was not to be.

So I waited quietly while Gail enjoyed her coffee and blackberry scone, thus demonstrating again my absolutely perfect manners

Weather and coronavirus restrictions permitting, I hope we can return to 'The Orka' before too long.

Bertie lad, having experienced your cafe etiquette directly, I never doubted you for a moment! I must say, that place looks jolly pleasant - a fortunate find in these difficult days. hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

    1. Gail says: when I first took Bertie out to places to eat, his manners were far from perfect! It was only be dint of much patience, involving me developing a thick skin in the face of occasional hostile glares from other customers, that he eventually became a reliable café companion.

  3. We don't know of any dog-friendly cafés here, Bertie, and if we did, I wouldn't be invited to go with mom because I don't have the wonderful manners that you possess. That scone sure does look yummy!

  4. You're lucky you have places like that where you can accompany Gail while she dines out. We think it would be lots of fun but place like that are rare around here.

  5. Bertie I certainly hope the Long Dog Cafe will survive the pandemic and eventually reopen. So many places here have not mainly due to space restrictions. Several cities are closing down some streets several days a week to allow for
dining to be set up in the street.

What a lovely new cafe you found an WELL done on your manners with the lovely waitress. Gail's scone has made my mouth dribble.

  6. Although many of our restaurants are now seating outside, not even I, Arty, the most well behaved restaurant pup of the Gang, aren't welcome during the COVID mess....You are one lucky, and most well behaved, pup Bertie!

  7. Three and a third Berties...we'll remember that. Restrictions are easing here. Not that we've even noticed being out in the middle of nowhere. We do follow the safety protocols, but feel safe.

  8. I think you need more practice, and of course, more treats.
