Wet weekend precedes a media blackout...

Not for the first time this year, the weekend just gone found Gail and I sitting inside our Torridon cottage, listening to the rain beating against the window as we eeked out our fast diminishing supply of firewood logs in order to stay warm. Meanwhile the radio spoke of a heat wave down south and the papers were reporting fears that climate change-induced water shortages might threaten the future of the Scottish whisky industry.

This photo below was taken during a lull between downpours which lasted, oh, a whole microsecond...

After three days of near continuous rainfall we decided to head back east early on Sunday to find somewhere dry for an afternoon walk.

You'll note the word 'dry' is used here in a relative sense.

Home in Aberdeen, I have decided hole up for the next few days in a sound proof room with no radio, TV or internet access until a certain visitor from the USA departs these shores. Gail is thinking about joining me.

Oh and by the way, in case you were wondering how this particular wire fox terrier dog occupies himself during a wet weekend on the west coast of Scotland, then click here for an explanatory video which, I'll warn you, is not everyone's idea of family viewing...

  1. We would apologize for dat visitor, but ya know we (and our mommas) didn't do it. Still, it are embarrassing to have him represent us - I'm shure he'll manage to offend even more people.

  4. Bertie, you should have pretended to be a Hippopotamus, and had a great wallow in the big puddle !
Even though it rained, your cottage looks a lovely place to be.

Bertie lad, it has to be said that this is 'situation normal' here at The Hutch, so I can't be overly sympawthetika. However, I am impressed that you were able to showcase the azalea and that amazing pond... Hugs and wags YAM-aunty xxx
(who is still 'crook' and will be favouring tennis and cricket commentary over newscasts for the next few days!)

  6. Yikes Bertie...I'll be happy as a clam to order you a barrel of rain from Amazon Prime...just say the word...can't run out water for whiskey.
What fun to go splish splashing in at mini creek.
As for the video...just plain 100% facts every being has to clean their undercarriage. However, most don't have it on YouTube.
    I'm laughin' my head off

  8. Are you sure you don't want to detain that visitor for a good long while???

We have had a lot of rain here too for weeks on end, but we haven't been able to spot a great puddle like that one. Did you do a little WFT dance through it?

  9. Those are some super puddles! I would have splashed right through them, just to make my mom yell! Haha! And you are doing the right thing, ignoring your visitor and his entourage from across the pond. We wish we could EVERY DAY.

  10. We can relate to the gray, chilly weather...but at least the rain has stayed to no more than a drizzle!

We do not blame you for hibernating !

  14. We're sorry you have to put up with the visitor too. Our pawrents don't watch the news much so we don't have to hear about him much either. It just makes the blood pressure go up. We don't see anything wrong with your video Bertie. This action is something we do around here all the time too.
