Why go to Skye?

There have been several newspaper reports this summer that the Isle of Skye is full up with tourists.

Regular readers of this blog will of course already be aware that there are lots of places in all corners of Scotland which are well worth a visit.

Neither Gail nor I are big fans of crowds, and so we are delighted to report that on Monday we walked all day across beautiful Deeside hills (an hour from Aberdeen), and met not a single other person.

And gosh it was fun.

  1. I hear ya... all beaches (dogs anyway NOT! allowed) and all places are crowded... to find a quiet place is like hitting da jackpot...

    1. No shortage of empty and beautiful dog-friendly beaches in Scotland - just remember to bring several layers of fleeces, and a survival suit if you want to venture into the water...

Skye's a bit over-rated anyway, Bertie lad. You and Gail are onto a good thing!!! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  3. That's just the sort of walk we like to do Bertie, but we don't have the beautiful scenery around here. We do go out early enough not to see a soul though !

  4. How wonderful Bertie! Even here in remote Torridon there seem to be lots of people at the moment out for walks. However, obviously if I were to meet you and Gail out for a walk in these parts I would be very pleased to see you both! Best regards Julia 😊

  5. Ps. Midges very bad here at the moment. Not good for stopping on walks and chatting! Juila x

  6. No need to travel anywhere when you have such pretty places right there!

  7. Bertie what a fun place to hike and OMCs the vistas are amazing. I bet you enjoyed your 'off of leash" time too
    Hugs madi your bfff

  8. We have to agree Bertie, the best hikes are those where it's just you and your peeps!

  9. Having never been a crowd person, SHE agrees with you completely. Just yourselves and all that beauty! let others look at their screens.

  10. Hi hi hi! Ojo here! Oh wow, I would LOVE to Walk (RUN!!) there with you! I will tell my person to get in Car and drive me there right away! I should be there any minute! It's only a few minutes to drive from Canada to Scotland, right?

  11. Gosh, that's pretty amazing to find such a place without a single person around. Not too many places like that around us, unfortunately. Enjoy!

  12. What wonderful pictures, Bertie! The countryside is absolutely beautiful. Your happy face says it all.
