A mighty fine newspaper

Taking a break from my exertions in Nottingham last weekend (see previous post) I cast a glance over Human Granny's newspaper. She has recently switched from the Observer to the Sunday Telegraph.

Look what I found on the letters page (you might need to biggify the image).

Wow!

That's what I call a fine newspaper. I mean it is so true, isn't it, that a dog has never deliberately mis-sold Payment Protection Insurance? When Lord Byron was extolling the virtues of his canine companion*, he never thought of that one did he?

I pointed out these splendid examples of correspondence to Gail and asked her if they sell the Telegraph in Scotland and if so, why isn't she already a subscriber?

After all I can't imagine that Daisy Springer (c/o Michael Davies) would ever get a letter to the editor published in one of Gail's beloved Guardians.

  1. Without giving away too much information Bertie, I did, uh hum, see those letters and was very heartened to read them. Never a truer word was barked.

  3. Usually, we wouldn't even wee on The Telegraph; but this is wonderful. We especially like the grumpy-misanthrope-free area.

Daisy Springer said it all. Must be the name Daisy.

Oh that IS a good bark out - even by the humans in defence of doglets. It would be fun to think this paper showed such a balanced view overall - but perhaps Gail is onto something more in the bigger picture frame. And you never know - have you tried writing to the Big Sheet?

Heh heh. (YAM-aunty's going a bit wild again...) Hugs and wags! xx

  12. What an excellent printing of letters! I couldn't have said it better myself. (Well, I probably could've, since I'm highly talented and wordy, but they said it just fine, so I don't NEED to say it myself.)

  15. Here in Florida I don't know the difference in newspapers but if asked to vote I'm all for the one whose readers have the proper respect towards us members of the superior species :D

  16. There's lots of grumpy misanthropes in France but none of them would dare complain about dogs.

  18. Why that is a fabulous paper, it prints the truth and is not a tabloid rag.

  22. I think you should get a letter in there Bertie. I is afraid that TNP's family gets the telegraph and TNP reads it online and they is often quite dog friendly, but some of the readers seem to not be so Scotland friendly. Anyway, sorry for the long absence from me. I like your new fur do and your fox!

  23. That's wonderful Bertie, I must really try and read that! My reading is not very good though, I just read the p&j, I have not advanced onto the telegraph yet!

  24. No idea what the political orientation of The Telegraph is, but they're spot on with printing great responses to curmudgeons. Of course, one expects nothing less from the GBP when it comes to dogs.
