An offaly good birthday weekend

Thank you friends for all the lovely birthday greetings. Let me tell you about my weekend.

It was kidney with kibble for my dinner on Friday, then fried liver the day after! I bet you can't think of a tastier way for a chap to celebrate reaching the grand old age of twelve.

Oh and we've had snow here these past few days. Just a sprinkling in the city, but in the forests inland the snow was in places a bit too deep for 'not as bouncy as they used to be' WFT limbs (but not so deep as to daunt this exceptionally game little terrier).

Waste not, want not?

So Gail, I see we now have three tubes of my toothpaste. Why is that?

Er, well to be honest Bertie, when I was in the pet supplies shop earlier today I remembered that we are near the end of the current tube, but I forgot we already had one in reserve.

Hmmm. Three tubes represents an awful lot of tooth brushing. As you know, it is not my favourite process, but I'll concede the liver flavouring does make the toothpaste taste quite nice.

Well I'm pleased it meets with your approval Bertie.

I have an idea Gail. You should use the toothpaste yourself! That would help deal with the surplus. After all, I have noticed you are quite thorough and enthusiastic in your approach to dental hygiene, and I know you like liver almost as much as I do.

Honestly Gail, I am quite happy to share.

Now why are you making that face Gail?

Dear readers, does your human ever reject your well-intentioned and generous offers for no good reason?

And has your human ever tried your toothpaste?

A proper birthday celebration!

"Can it really be ten years?" Gail exclaimed this morning when she woke up.

I looked at her expectantly. Although past experience has taught me not to raise my hopes too high.

Then Gail gave me a big hug and said "Happy tenth birthday darling Bertie! Look here's your present and card and we'll have a special birthday tea later when I get home from work."

So after she left I had time to read the message in the card, and then I dozed off (us senior dogs do like our naps) and waited for her to return.

It seemed an age, but for once the wait was worth while. A two course celebratory supper!

First course was home made ox liver biscuits garnished with a choice of soft cheese, peanut butter or marmite.
(Why don't I get peanut butter more often?)

Then for afters, it was a black pudding special.

Liver and black pudding all in one meal!

Does life get any better?

Chicken liver brownies and more...

Well, contrary to the fears I expressed in the previous post, it turns out that being two years old is not so bad.

Here are some highlights from my birthday weekend (which I spent over at the Torridon cottage).

Gail baked me my very own utterly delicious 'Chicken Liver Brownie Birthday Cake'.
See me blowing out the candles there.

My dear friend Marie-Thérèse not only made a beautiful card,

But also gave me a super present, which I unwrapped, quite delicately, all by myself.

That important business completed, I went exploring outside in the freshly fallen snow.

Gail and I shared a joke*.

Then before we left I caught up on the local gossip with my Irish Terrier neighbour Dooley. These Irish lads do enjoy a good craic.

On the way back to Aberdeen, I galloped around by the sea in sunny Nairn, and made some brand new friends.

And there was also time for a spot of posing, as is expected of the good looking young male when he visits the beach.

Yes, all in all, I'm quite happy being two.

Oh and by the way, 'That List' proved most useful when we ran short of fuel for the wood burning stove...
