Making the most of things

I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to bring you any more scenic pictures of the Scottish Highlands for the time being at least. New government orders are that we're to start walks from our home in the city and avoid all 'non-essential' travel. Apparently driving me inland to the hills is deemed 'non-essential', but Gail says I'm not to moan, lots of folk are having a much harder time than we are just now. And it's true, we do have plenty of nice open spaces, reachable on two or four legs, to explore.

So on Saturday morning Gail led me through Duthie Park, across the King George VI Bridge over the River Dee, up Provost Watt Drive in Kincorth to an area of heathland known locally as 'The Gramps'.

What did we see?

In the park, lots of runners, and some past their peak crocuses.

Along Provost Watt Drive, examples of Aberdeen's unlovely 1960s housing schemes.

From the Gramps, a fine view north across the city and environs,

Then a wildlife pond scummy with frog spawn.

Blue sky appeared momentarily,

Then a storm moved across and, with faces battered by hailstones, we hastened home, photography forgotten.

Gail and I want to send love and (virtual) hugs to our blogging friends all over the world. And please, to those of my fellow pups who, like me, live in a single human household, do allow your human to give you extra cuddles as they'll be needing you more than ever for company.

  1. Bertie - Perhaps one day you can go out and count all the roundabouts along Provost Watt Drive.

Oh yes, Bertie lad, you and Gail are definitely on the right track of making the best of a rather poor situation! Thanks for managing to get some photos, at least and I hope the hail didn't do any serious damge to furs or skins! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  4. Bertie, you're a lucky boy to get such a nice long walk, even though you had to rush home to escape the storm!
We aren't supposed to go further than 50 metres from our homes, and there no joggers or walkers - or any people on foot - anywhere now. Hardly any chance to get any exercise, though we do take a longer walk than is permitted by the new special law, so I hope we don't end up in prison!

    Love,
    Inca xx

    1. We worry that we'll end up with similar restrictions to you in Spain, and so are trying to make the most of the relative freedom here while we still can.
Paws crossed that your police have far more serious things to worry about than your stretching of the definition of 50m!
All the best, Gail and Bertie.

  5. We’re glad to hear you are keeping well. We’re lucky to have a large forested park a block away so Phoebe the Westie is learning all the trails, something we’ve not had time for before. The rest of the time: inside and working from home for the human! Take care Bertie and Gail.

  8. Momma said it's a hard time to live alone, and she's very glad to have me around. We just walk around our neighborhood, but it's still very pretty!

  9. It's good to hear you and Gail are doing well Bertie. Too bad you can't get to your hills for better hikes but at least you have some nice parks to walk in. We too are worried about our single friends and have our paws crossed that all are well. Don't let Gail squeeze you too hard though. BOL!

  12. You still have many beautiful places to explore Bertie. Lady was telling us the parks and dog parks have been closed here. She says people can't social distance right so it is necessary. Stay safe and virtual hugs back.

  13. I'm sure doing my part I'm between Lee legs or sleeping on her feet when she is on the computer. Why I'm even acting happy to get my nails trimmed and my teeth brushed, now that is going the extra mile.

    1. Happy to have you nails trimmed? Wow, Sweet William, that is going an extra five hundred miles (as 'The Proclaimers' might say).
      Toodle pip!

  14. We are pretty much confined to our yard since Mom can't walk us yet, but there is always a lot to be seen. Birds, squirrels, bunnies, and even some BIG turkey vultures!!!
