Not happy. Sulking in fact.

Can you believe I've been shut in kitchen virtually the whole week!

Gail tells me it's a 'Good Thing' that some long running issues with damp on the gable end wall of our 110 year old granite home in Aberdeen are being sorted out, and all will be back to normal in another week or so.

I am struggling to figure out in what way it is a 'Good Thing' to have a house full of strange men stomping around noisily and removing the lath and plaster interior finishing to a wall which extends all the way up two flights of stairs, resulting in a fine layer plaster dust covering the whole house and making my skin itch at night.

Oh. Gail is contradicting my assertion that I've been locked in all week, saying that the photos below tell another story.

Well that's as maybe, but it doesn't alter the fact that returning home each time to a building site is no fun at all...

So I'm still sulking.

  1. don't be sad Bertie... we are prisoners too when work-guys come to our crib... although we are super well bee-hived... what's wrong with testing if that guys are eatable?

  2. Never mind Bertie, just think how nice and cosy your home will be when it's all finished! Do the workmen bring biscuits?
Then you can come and help us with our mopping up. We have had torrential rain and gale force winds (called a Gota Fria) for ages, and parts of our home are getting wet, and then the electricity goes off. It's horrible having to go out to spend a penny, and takes even my Labrador coat a long time to dry.

    Love,

  4. We agree that it's never any fun to have workmen in the house. They are always so noisy and never want us around to help them with their work. It does look like you've had fun on your excursions away though.

  5. Bertie darlin' I'm sending 100% sympathies for your plight and unfair treatment. JUST not right for a King to sequestered in his own Castle!!!
I am not one for having extra men in and out and traipsing about with dirty feet.
BUT I know it will look fabulous!! I look forward to seeing the updates. The exterior stone work is beautiful!!

  13. I am so glad that you are getting out for your romps. But, I am just like you - I sulk when we have workers in the house. Ugh!!!! The last ones who were here gave us Influenza A - and, with that, we need a long break before we have any workers back! As you said though, having the house fixed is a really nice thing.
