Sharing is caring...

Maybe I'm just too suspicious.

Has it ever occurred to you that your human might deliberately purchase snacks containing chocolate, or other dog-unfriendly ingredients, just to avoid sharing?

This thought crossed my mind when out for a walk with Gail on Sunday morning.

We were happily strolling through the woods at Cambus o' May when Gail decided to stop for an 'elevenses' break, and took a flask of coffee and a bar of flapjack from her bag.

I put on my best starving dog look, but Gail pointed out that the snack was labelled 'chocolate-flavoured' and said firmly: "Not for you Bertie".

So I barked a response, which Gail correctly interpreted as suggesting she might like to nibble the chocolate off the top of the bar and offer me a portion of the remainder.

After all, with Christmas imminent, it's important to make sure our humans don't start piling on the pounds, isn't it?

I'm pleased to report that, following my prompt, Gail did finally release a few crumbs for me to hoover up before we set off again through the forest...

  1. oh how nice that you got some crumbs, that is good too. the mama said she will eat her way through this holidays no matter what ... do you think we are allowed to join her?

  2. Oh dear Bertie, Gail didn't give you a thought when she packed that flap jack did she? That's not fair! My human doesn't eat much chocolate, but when she does, she sometimes gives me a tiny sliver, just to share, even though she knows I shouldn't have it. I mostly get to share her fruit, which she says isn't as naughty as chocolate!

    1. Inca, your human sounds nice. Gail only shares her food when we are out on a walk, and I have come to expect it!
      Toodle pip! Bertie.

  5. BOL BOL BOL Bertie...I am gonna try my darnest to replicate your, "I put on my best starving dog look". Thankfully Gail got rid of all the 'nasty' chocolate 'cause we would not want our favorite WFT to be 'sick as a dog'. LOL

    1. I'm a Labrador, and we are the very best at "starving dog" looks - in fact we invented it! Just watch any Lab. around food and you'll soon learn.

  8. Thank goodness she finally shared some crumbs! You could have starved out there! We have a similiar complaint here, mom baked cookies ALL DAY yesterday and it was no, you can't have any because there are raisins! We could have nibbled around them, right?

  9. We are sure humans do things that omit dogs from the mix! Chocolate treats, onions in stews, dried fruit in buns....the list goes on. Always, the 'this isn't good for you' as they chow down on goodies. Glad you were able to get a few crumbs. We need a campaign for dog-friendly treats....

  11. Well, Bertie, remember you are trying to cheer up Gail, and, in most cases, chocolate helps that cause!

  15. We think it was a trick to not share. Lady does the same with her pancakes. Darn chocolate.
