Confused about Scotch Corner

Yesterday lunchtime Gail made me pose in front of a less than scenic truck stop close to Scotch Corner in North Yorkshire.

You might it be wondering why it is called Scotch Corner, when it really is not so close to Scotland.

Or you might be wondering what Gail and I were doing on the A66 in North Yorkshire in the middle of the week when we should be in Aberdeen.

Well I can answer the second point. I'm sad to report that Human Granny has been admitted to hospital in Nottingham and is not very well at all, so Gail and I have made an unscheduled emergency trip South.

Gail says my readers will understand if this blog is quieter than usual while we focus our attention on HGY.

  16. Bertie - There used to be a hotel at Scotch Corner that was a de rigeur stop on the road South.
As for HG you can be sure that she and her family are surrounded by the thoughts and prayers of so many bloggers who are wishing strength and calm are at special times like this .

  18. Bertie! Oh my gosh! It’s Jake! Mom was just looking for some new knitting inspiration and stumbled upon you on Hand Knitted Things blog! What a small world! Guess what? Mom is coming to Scotland in late July/early August. She is more than a little excited! She keep saying that she needs to catch up with you. Word has it you’ve been biking across the pond. Mom’s biking in France in April!
