Comparisons are odious?

Did you know it was Gail's birthday last week?

It's always fun, isn't it, to look at the cards and decide which you like best.

Such a difficult choice, this time around.

I thought we had a clear winner, when I saw this one from our friends Margaret and Jeffrey.

Splendid, don't you think? A handsome fellow isn't he? And such a jolly neckerchief.

But then Gail opened the envelope postmarked Nottingham. Human Granny had earlier dropped a hint that she'd found a very special card for Gail.

And this was it.

A wire-haired fox terrier sitting in front of a bicycle!

Yes I can see why this image might be considered especially fitting for Gail.

The WFT guy even looks a bit like me, wouldn't you say? Personally I would have preferred it if he had been allowed to pose without any distracting objects in the background, but I guess at least the bike is behind and not in front of him.

Perhaps if I set the cards side by side it will be easier to select the 'winner'.

I wonder what my friends think?

Oh. Gail is telling me that if Human Grandad (who also had a November birthday) had read this he would have frowned and said: "Bertie, comparisons are odious"...

  1. I dunno, dey both look like winners to me.

And happy belated birfday to Gail, my momma also had a birfday lastest week.

  2. They are great cards. We're a bit partial to the beach WFT, but see where the bicycle takes into consideration two interests. Happy Birthday to Gail for last week.

PeeS. We laughed at the great Australian bowler Lillian Thompson...BOL! Saw it on Charlie's blog.

  3. We like them both Bertie. Happy belated birthday to Gail. Sorry we missed it. Have a marvellous Monday.
    Best wishes Molly

  4. Happy belated Burfday Gail
I can't choose either, they both show a lot of thought by the sender.
    Loves and licky kisses

  5. Hari Om
I'm with Angel HGD on this one... each has its own merit and must be treasured as such. Besides, both represent a part of your life so here we have unity... Hope your keeping your furs dry, hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

pee ess, dear Boffin, over here the last three Sundays have been SUNdays. Other than that one has needed lights on every day. I wonder if you have thoughts on the pattern? ...and can I safely pack a picnic NEXT Sunday???

  6. Happy be-lated Birthday, dearest Gail! We missed it! I love the odious comparisons -- all of those cards are spectacular.

Did Gail give you cake for her birthday?!

    We love you both!

    Tootsie & her humans

  7. Hapy belated Birthday to your Gail. I like both cards, but the first one reminds me of the good ole times, as we could see this fabulous breed everywhere.
    Easy Rider

  8. Happy Birthday to Gail! I'm kind of indecisive ...can't seem to make up my mind on the cards. I think they are both nice!

  9. Bertie - To go one bette you'll need to have your photo taken in a wicker basket on front of a bike.

  10. we are always drawn to anything with lots of green - so the bike card wins for us - and a happy belated birthday Gail

  11. There is NO comparison to you ever!

    Your Pals,

    Murphy & Stanley

  12. I think they're both grreat, but the one on the left is a little more Gail. And happy barkday to her!

  13. Happy Birthday to Gail!

Bertie, I love both cards. I agree with Angus and even better with a jolly neckerchief as well.

    Best regards

P.S. my bicycle with basket is available for photo shoots anytime...

  14. Both cards are perfect. Happy Birthday to Gail
    Lily & Edward

  15. We hope Gsi had a most wonderous barkday...we are partial to beaches here, so we are going with the beach shot with the snazzy neckerchief!

  19. I like both cards too, but Granny's just a bit more! My birthday is November 16th and on my last I was 76! Even I find that hard to believe. So happy better late than never, Gail.
    Cheers, older, no wiser, Jo

    1. A very belated Happy Birthday Jo. Twenty years wiser than me anyway! Cheers, Gail.

  20. Crikey Bertie.....according to my Mum any card with a WFT on it is alright by her. I like both of 'em.
    Happy belated Birthday, Gail.
