The Clydesdales and the serial killer foxy

Every year in late August, the Clydesdale Horse Show comes to Duthie Park.

Early arrivals were being spiffed up as Gail and I walked around the park on Saturday morning.

We stopped by one particularly handsome fellow.

He was standing still as a statue while his owners gave his feet a good scrub.

Let me tell you I would never have permitted that. Gail asked if she could take a photo. The hoof scrubbers cheerfully assented, then one of them spotted me.

"A foxy! You don't see so many of them these days. My parents had a wire haired fox terrier on our farm. Killed everything that moved, it did. Hens, rats, mice, all the cats, every single one of them. Aye, that he did. Cats, chicken, rats, the lot. What's your one called? Bertie? I can see Bertie's paying attention".

You bet. I was SO impressed. Wow! Respect to that farm fox terrier.

Was it really necessary for Gail, in best embarrassing parent mode, to reply with this:

"Oh yes, Bertie's always alert. But the only creature he's killed so far is a vibrating toy hamster. Ha ha".

So NOT funny.

  6. We know you could hunt whatever you wanted Bertie and are just being kind letting other creatures live.

  7. While mom sings the awww and ohhhh song for the horses, I will write the comment: I agree for the serial foxy, my mom had such a guy too once. If that girl was on the move alone, my grampy always added the checkbook when he searched for her. It's not a big deal to kill chicken and rats and mice and whatnot that's old-fashioned, butt to kill a vibrating toy hamster, is absolutely heroic, I mean you killed a high-tech thingy like the Terminator or the Transformers. Bravo!

  8. Bertie somehow you just got to get your peep to extol your virtues ~ remind me again what are they?
Lee loves the Budweiser Clydesdale. Once she got to ride on their wagon.

  9. Mom would of been in heaven seeing all those Clydesdales - she just adores them and any of the big majestic breed horse. Seriously Bertie - your mom so needs to take you to a farm so you can let loose your inner terrier and terrorize some critters

  10. OMD the Clydesdales are SO BIG and Beautiful.
Did you get to sniff some of their poops?

We are SO very much sorry that Gail found it necessary to speak of your GREAT Killing Skills in such a Disrespectful and Disparaging Manor. She should be ashamed. Just how many Vibrating Hamsters did that serial killer do in, we ask you? Bah we go fur QUALITY in place of Quantity.
    RIGHT Buddy?

OMDness, that's when the ground feels like it is sinking, is that not so Bertie? If it helps, I think that means that Gail is ACTUALLY rather proud of your hamster count... Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  12. Bertie what a grand post of the majestic Clydesdales...once years ago a team of them came to Raleigh. To see them in person is awe inspiring and OMDS they showed proper respect to your bred too.

Buddy that farm Terrier had reason to be an expert hunter...you my friend have a charmed life and no need to be a killer when you can be a lover!

  14. BOL!!! OMD, you killed your vibrating hamster?! Nice!
Ma had Fox Terriers growin' up, and they sure were good ratters!! Always bringin' a treasure home. I have only caught one tree rat, and Ma says it was pure luck, butts I disagree...all skill I tell ya! ☺
Oh, and I wouldn't allow the washin' of my leggies or feet either! I hates that. Those horses are sure patient!
    Not like us terriers
    Kisses,
    Ruby ♥

  15. I'm sure that vibrating hamster posed a real threat and needed killing!! Your mum can really cut you down Bertie ... I'm sure if you did start killing stuffs she wouldn't like all that blood and stuff everywhere to clean up!! Once my Auntie L had to clean up the remnants of a possum that was pulled to bits by her Samoyed in the kitchen. She is still in THERAPY!! So Gail should be thankful.

Love those horses - and BOL - that is what happens to my paws after a walk through the damp outsides!!

  17. Howdy Bertie. Wowza those horses were magnificent. So huge but gentle. Oh Bertie, why on why do our peeps like to embarrass us. Sheesh. The other day we had our first blow fly come inside. Horrid they are, noisy and scary and I couldn't help if I ran and hid in the passage. Well, of course, mum tells everyone about it and they even laughed. Sigh. I'm thinking I'd like to tell a few stories of her and the things she's done! Take care mate and be proud of your kill. A vibrating hamster sounds pretty scary to me. No worries, and slobber, Rory and Stella
