Ungainly? What an insult!

Oh I do wish I lived in one of those households where even the smallest of achievements are met with uncritical praise.

You see, now that it's dark in the evening when Gail returns home from work, she has decided to instigate a winter training programme teaching me new indoor 'tricks'.

This week it's been "roll over Bertie!"

It occurs to me that rolling over probably comes more naturally to the shorter legged breeds - dachshunds and the like.

For us gangling types, there seems to be an issue of where to put the legs.

Really, I think people should be impressed that I have finally, with the aid of extensive treat-related bribery, mastered the required activity at all.

But no, all I get for my efforts is "Bertie, can't you try to roll a bit more smoothly? You look so ungainly. No marks for 'artistic impression' for you my wee laddie".

Humph. What do YOU think?

  1. Bertie,

You were so quick we had to watch you do that a second time. Well done!

    Woofs,
Riley and Enzo (who both still haven't learnt to roll over)

  9. Rut roh...you've given our mom a new idea. But we agree, what to do with our legs is a problem. Shame on Gail for not being more, appreciative.

    Wirey love,

  11. This makes me wag. I roll over a lot, but then I'm down low. There's some reach you have to get down to the ground.

Good job, Bertie. Great job, Bertie!

  12. Hi Bertie. This is our first visit. Nice to meet you and Gail. Read Gail's comment on BiContinental Daschund and wanted to wish her well.

I think your roll over is great. That cute tail wag at the end really makes it!

  15. I totally understand Bertie! I, being an elegant Airedale with loooong leggies, STILL refuses to do the 'roll over'. So, you my friend, should be congratulated on your mastery of the trick.

    Kisses,
    Ruby

  16. I'm not universeally opposed to the indoor training, but it does often involve pointless contortions and faint praise. I am sure your barrel roles are executed with wonderful style.

  17. Looks alright, Bertie, next you can work on the Standing walk, where you get into a Stand and then take some steps. Once you perfect that, you can hitch a ride to a pub, and use the trick to make a few bob. This way fame and glory, Bertie, right this way!

    Cheers,
    Stella

  18. Stella's idea is brilliant. Meanwhile, I'd say you're a natural, especially compared to Airedales.

  19. Bertie-
Why would you want to do that? Roll over what?
Maybe if she put something stinky down to roll on...now there's a trick!

  20. That was an excellent roll! And so fast! We have no idea what Gail is nattering on about, after such a great performance. You spoil her, dear boy. In our house, the spoiling flows from mama to us and not the other way around. Always leave them wanting more, that's what we say.
