But I still contend that, if you had wanted to see 'Britain at its Best' this weekend, you should have joined me in Northwest Scotland.
Posing on the beach at Gairloch, Wester Ross |
More posing - Gairloch village in the background |
Yes it really is Scotland. And the sea really was that blue! |
Escaping the Bank Holiday crowds |
Admiring the view of the Torridon hills |
Conquering my first Munro - Beinn Alligin, above Loch Torridon |
It was so dry that one of the Torridon hills (Liathach) caught fire. |
Yes really!! |
Watching the fire from a safe distance at the far end of Loch Torridon |
And finally, back at our cottage, enjoying 'Hamish's view' over the Loch |
Log in on Friday for the much anticipated Gravity Lecture.....
PS for more on the fire, see this dramatic report from a walker on Liathach.

hey Bertie,
ReplyDeleteYes, Kate, er, the Duchess of Cambridge, was lovely on her wedding day, but I am still hurting that I was not flippin' invited. But, Bertie, you are a very dashingly handsome pup! And you seem so in your element running around the Highlands of Scotland!
Such a beautiful place you live! My human's sister is in your neck of the woods right now and she said Scotland is magnificent! My human and I have never been but perhaps I can woof her in to bringing me there.
Suka

The gravity lecture is on Friday??? Are you gonna tell how much every dog and hooman weigh???? Remember I AM petite.
ReplyDeleteOh, Bertie...we missed you at the wedding. But borrowing that darling car that Kate er Catherine and William used and driving up to see you made up for it.
So you're not going to tell about that my blender overheating and causing that small fire you BLABBED er reported on your blog?

Well good now that that is all cleared up I look forward to your latest scientific lecture.. Love A+A
ReplyDeleteBertie - Congratulations on climbing your first Munro. You've also reminded us that Scotland is the most beautiful place on earth when the weathers good .
ReplyDeleteHi Bertie - fantastic scenery. As Angus said, when the sun shines, there is nowhere more lovely than bonnie Ecosse. Forest fires eh? Who'd have thought it?!

Forgive me, but, um, though a beautiful bride indeed, Princess Catherine is a wee bit on the too skinny side. But, hey, what do I know? I'm the one on a diet! (And I'm the one who lives across the pond where too many things are too darned big, so maybe she's just right.)
ReplyDeleteAh me...Scotland is so beautiful and, Bertie, you do a great job showing it off! I'm tawdling off to find out about that fire! Stay safe!
Roodles, Stuart
What beautiful scenery! The Lady Of The House flew up from the Midlands to Aberdeen a couple of weekends ago. If I'd known you then I'd have told her to pop in and say 'hello'! I found you on a few of my favourite blogs - and now you are a new favourite too!!
ReplyDeleteLove and licks, Winnie
Scotland burning!!! Incroyable! The world truly is turned upside down. Wish we could send you some of our flood waters.
ReplyDeleteSo, now that the Scottish independence party has a solid majority, we understand they plan to introduce legislation to dissolve the union with England. Is that likely to happen? We await events with eager anticipation.
Jed & Abby
We totally understand your choice of how to spend the weekend a few weeks back. Those are absolutely beautiful pictures of an absolutely beautiful nation at its best. Wow.
ReplyDeleteHow often do you get days like that? Gorgeous!
jake and Fergs
Hi Bertie!
ReplyDeleteWas just flicking through your Torridon posts when I came across this one! It's really great! I've always wanted to go to Gairlich and up the west coast because Grace and Eve brought back some pictures, just as beautiful and stunning as yours!
You're very lucky to have such a pretty cottage in such a pretty setting. Maybe one day I will get to go up the west coast... I wish I didn't get travel sick...
