Our Churchillian leader...

(Repeat of Thursday's post, which Blogger seems to have lost)

Elections to the Scottish Parliament last week resulted in a landslide victory for the Scottish Nationalist party under the supposedly charismatic leadership of one Mr Alex Salmond.

Yes I know. You won’t be interested in some smarmy politician, however successful, unless I can dig up a canine connection.

Well, neither Gail nor I could recall seeing any photos of this giant* of Scottish politics out walking a favourite pooch (although, from the look of him just now, he sure could use the exercise…)

In desperation, we reached for Google.

No sign of Wee Eck doling out ‘Best in Show’ rosettes. No cuddling fluffy puppies. Nothing.

Ah but wait!

Did you know that there is a Facebook group dedicated to the proposition that ‘Alex Salmond looks like the Churchill dog’.
 Oh Yes!

[Note for non British readers – the ‘Churchill dog’ - pictured above - is well known in the UK as star of a long running series of TV adverts for a certain insurance company.]

*That’s ‘giant’ as in an ‘ever expanding girth’ sense.

  1. We see the resemblance! Except Churchill Dog looks more charasmatic.

We're laughing because if someone is supposedly charasmatic....obviously they're not!

  4. Now you mention it... yes I see it! I find AS to be rather a pompous git and I'm still trying to understand how we pay for his "generosity".

  9. I can see you is a big fan Bertie!

As for the stars, yes Dumfries and Galloway is very full of it's dark skies! Very pretty Mum says and there is millions of tiny stars and the lodge had handy print outs of stars to look for, but I couldn't say cos I don't look up that far. Mum says they only had one clear sky at night though it was too cloudy after that.

  14. So have y'all selected your new national anthem yet? And you'll have to get new passports, of course. 'Salmond' doesn't quite trip off the tongue like 'Churchill', does it? Are there any Stewarts left who might be invited back to assume the throne of Scotland and give a boost to your tourist trade? You know how we Yanks love the royals, now that they're an optional extra for us.

  15. If somebody makes a movie about this smarmy politician, Bob Hoskins could play him. I wonder what the Churchill dog has to say about the comparison!

  17. Bertie. How I've missed you my boy! Specially now I see you finally trained Gail to let you bag yourself a Monro. Wagging well done dear boy!! On both counts. What a fine foxy you are, super smart and heartbreaking handsome. But do remember to work on your naughty side too.

Then your most interesting scientific experiment from the Leaning Tower. Please apologise to Gail over my manic behaviour every time she said "off we go doggies- to the Leaning Tower Of Pizza" Though I can see from your chart Bertie certainly you and I are not being fed nearly enough of it. Or anything for that matter eh?

Churchill. Grrrrr. That man is almost his twin. But then M Square piped up to tell Gail Eric Pickles is another good candidate. What? Eric Pickles? Isn't that me???? As if I look like that annoying Churchill doggie. Well I might if I ever get to eat that stack of pizza......

Wiry love to you Bertie from you proud Uncle Eric xx
