My rival

Some of my friends, I know, have to compete for attention with other dogs. We have all been reading with great interest about the dreadful situation that Scottie Jazzi has recently endured with newcomer Addy... Other friends have, heaven forbid, to share their living space with diverse species: cats, rabbits, hamsters etc.

I have a different problem, which I want to share with you today.

My main rival for Gail's affections is an inanimate object with two wheels.  Actually she owns three of these contraptions, but it's the one pictured here that I most resent. This bicycle came out of the shed a few weeks ago, and Gail keeps disappearing on it for hours at a time on what she refers to as 'a training ride'. (Different from a ride on a train, apparently).

It gets worse.

I asked Gail how we are planning to celebrate what my American pals call my 'gotcha day', the anniversary of day when I first came to live here in this house. It's coming up in a couple of weeks. Can you believe what I was told?

"Tough luck Bertie,  I shall be on a bicycling trip in France with my London-based friends for that week, and you will be in prison  those nice boarding kennels."

Are there not laws against this sort of treatment?

  2. Bertie - Has Gail never heard about pet passports ? You'd nestle nicely into a basket between the handlebars. That way you could keep up a running commentary on everything that's going on.

  3. That bike isn't even cute! How can she leave you on your 'gotcha day'. Well, ignore Gail when she gets back (for awhile) and let her know it's not right!

  4. Hey there Bertie...
Tell Gail that she should get a 'Bicycle made for two', BOL! By the way, I really enjoyed your post about Duke's Wood. It appears that you do, indeed, have a wise Grandpa.
Sending lotsalicks and good luck with the bicycle dilemma. Perhaps you should learn to speak Terrier-French, maybe then she'll reconsider.

  5. NO that just sucks big time! I can't believe she is going to spend her time in France with HER friends & not bring you along. Bertie, I feel for you. Perhaps you can sneak into Gail's traveling bag? She won't notice.

Furst.. you need to tell Gail that you want one of those thingys that attaches on the back... fur YOU to ride along in. It would be very much grrrrreat fur BOTH of you. You would be able to MONITOR her pawgress.
NEXT... WHAT???? WHAT???? no celebration fur your Gotcha Day!
NOT to be Pawmitted!!! If she isn't gonna be there on the Actual Day... the very LEAST she could do is... have a PRE Gotcha Day Celebration fur you!!!

  11. You know, Bertie, some dogs get to run along side their humans when they are riding those things. K at Romping and Rolling in the Rockies does and Juno at Wild Dingo does, too. Maybe when Gail gets back you could train her how to do that. Also, Gotcha Days are kinda for rescued doggies that didn't have a home and no one knows when their real birthday is. You're lucky because you get to have a real birthday. Sorry about having to go to jail, though. We think you should take George or Asta up on their offers!!

  12. *CLEARLY* That Gail of yours needs to CANCEL her trip and prepare a Gotcha Day extravaganza for you that most certainly included freshly made D'oh!-nuts. (OR if cancelling is not possible, there needs to be a BIG PARTY when she gets back, I mean really, getting you was OBVIOUSLY the best day of her life!)

  13. Oh I so agree with everypup!

Gail needs to take care of YOU! Not some stupid bike that is not even soft to lay on. Or good to chew!

  15. Ah, Bertie! This is sad news indeed. Now locally if we call our Humane Soc. and report something like this, they would ask the following: Does the dog have shelter? Does the dog have food and water? A caretaker? If the answer to those ? is yes, then they think you are just fine! Isn't that something?

You may as well settle in and enjoy yourself as best you can, maybe make a new pal or two. Ach! You will miss Ludo's birthday party!

    Kisses,
    Stella

  16. hey Bertie,

"Tough Luck"??? Yikes, that is rough! I think some bike tires need to be chewed.

I suppose the good news is that perhaps when she returns from her trip you will be spoiled and pampered to make up for your prison time and missed Gotcha Day! A pup can only hope....

  17. We suggest you start making a very long list of French delicacies that Gail must bring home for you. It's the only consolation we can think of.

Our Moma? She sat in the library today ... without us ... reading Sean O'Brien's The Silence Room , while waiting for an interview to ... potentially ... desert us for hours at a time. And ... from what we understand ... they don't have special treats for us at the library. (We hope she doesn't get the job)

If you need terrier toffer assistance just let us know...we are sooooo available...we love to chase those creatures at the park...

Oh...and if she's puttin' you in prison er "camp" for your Gotcha Day, we're so comin' over and springin' ya...perhaps trot down to Uncle Eric's and hit the pub???

  20. Oh my, Bertie! You should call your local humane society at ONCE! We're sure there is some statute against leaving you in PRISON on your gotcha day. And being thrown over for a bicycle?! We would lodge a protest!

    Good luck to you!
