Dining out etiquette

I have noticed that when humans are served food in a restaurant, they are allowed to eat it right away.

For example, here are Gail's recent visitors Jim and Lori tucking into some sticky toffee pudding (a delicacy which I understand is not commonly available in their home territory of the Pacific Northwest).

But when the waitress brings me a bowl of special home-baked dog treats, I am made to wait patiently until all the humans have finished eating their food and are ready to leave.

Apparently this is all in the cause of teaching me good manners so I don't expect to be given food from the table.

Have you ever heard anything more ridiculous?

Anyone would think I had been negligent in my "pose nicely Bertie" duties during our day out together in Stonehaven.

Which of course was not the case.

OMD Bertie, that's just plain unfair. I know that place with the home-bake treats and I know that they put dogs on equal paw to their peeps... this point seems to have been missed! I must say though, lad, the Haven is looking jolly fine in these bright photographs... though I do wonder whatever is being done to the shorline??!! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  3. Bertie you know I'm queen of demerits...so may I please make a suggestion (no charge) next time Gail drops something from the table (we have a 5 second rule here) MAKE HER wait 5 seconds...if it remains unclaimed by YOU...then she can retrieve it. Mom wants some sticky toffee pudding!

  4. Well, at least you get to go "out" to eat, we are always stuck at home:( And even then we have that silly "sit and wait" command when our dinner bowls get placed on the floor. Who wants to wait to dig in???

    Happy Sunday.

  6. Dear Bertie,

That is ridiculous indeed! If the humans are eating, the Dogs should be eating! That's what I say!

Here is also what is ridiculous. Where we live, Dogs are not allowed at restaurants at all (not even coffee shops, nowhere that food is served). I think I would be willing to sit around waiting for my turn if it meant that I least I could be there having a turn!

  7. Oh Bertie, Sticky Toffee pudding - you lucky, lucky boy! Never mind that you had to wait - at least you had it in the end !
Being a somewhat rotund Labrador, I'm not allowed any wonderful treats like that, and I'm not ever fed at the table. How mean is that?

  8. The nice waitress needs more training - surely she should of put your food on the floor beside you, so you could eat at the same time as the others and no one could say you were being fed off the table!

  9. We do think something may have to be done about the treat withholding and delaying going on in Blogville lately!

  10. We wanna know why you didn't get served right at the table?? Looks kinda cool there. Our pawrents keep taking off on their bikes these days. So now we feel the pain of being neglected! Mom even bought some new bike shorts today! And if you can believe it they rode 37.5 miles on Saturday! Mom says she loves her bike. Of course they are still running. We ran 6 miles with them today. But this biking nonsense must end! And tips Bertie?

    Keep Calm & Bark On!
