Variety is the spice of life

Gail and I hiked the 'Loch Lee and waterfalls' circuit in the Angus Glens this weekend.

I thought it was a super route, although Gail said more sun and fewer midges would have been an improvement.

It's always fun to walk on lots of different surfaces, don't you agree?

First there was a gravel track beside the loch,

Then a wooden bridge to cross,

Here I am doing the traditional Scottish 'dog in heather' pose (Westie™)

Now you see me walking across some micaceous schist (if it had been sunny, you'd be able to see the sparkle of mirror-like mica crystals),

Although a dull day, it was quite warm (for Scotland) so I enjoyed a wee paddle in the cool, clear mountain stream. But not, please note, a swim.  NO WAY!

The path was soft and grassy as we approached the plateau...

Where I was thrilled to find lots of squelchy bogs (Gail less so).

Oh yes, and finally a nice view down to the loch where the walk began.

And then, with tiresome inevitability, the rain arrived. So Gail put away her camera and concentrated on navigating us through the rapidly descending cloud and back to the car park.

  1. BERTIE OMCs my peeps would love to see the vistas you show us in person. Absolutely 100% the most beautiful views. I love how your WFT tail is at alert the entire hike. We especially liked this

  2. PS we meant to say...how lucky you are that all the Angel furries in your family came before you. They paved the way to Gail's heart...now that being said we expect Gail is a wee bit glad you don't steal scones off the table ahhh but yes you did take a run down the train platform which is equivalent to that on the mischief scale. That is okey dokey though all that makes each of us special

Yup, what's underfoot makes the walk as interesting as what's long before the e'en... Crikey though - that was a pretty impressive day, Scottishly speaking!!! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  6. Bertie we can't find words to describe that walk. Just so much to enjoy. SHE loves rocks, so we probably would have had to stop there for awhile. Glad you had a mostly gorgeous day to enjoy it.

  8. These pictures are truly breathtaking especially that final shot. If you could only see where my daily walks are - no mountains, plateaus, or mountain streams!

  16. Oh Bertie hate when midgets are flying around my ears but I could sit in the heather all day long and enjoy the view. Me think Gail must be the womens version of Bear Gryllis. Do you have to eat maggots for protein when you are on these hikes. How many miles was that?
    Thanks for being a friend

    1. Sweet William, I insist Gail carries in her wee backpack a top of the range individual portion of best turkey pate, and a pigs ear. No maggots for me!
Oh and the walk was nearly 10 miles long.
