Wire-haired fox terrier problems (2)

This is the second of an occasional series of short posts dealing with life problems affecting (but surely not unique to) my own breed.

  • Have you ever aspired to overtake a high speed train?
  • Are you convinced you really could bring down a Monarch of the Glen?
  • Winged flight - do you feel our feathered friends have an unfair advantage?

Todays today's topic is:

Excess of Ambition versus Realistic Goals…

I could run faster than that train if only I were allowed.

The scent of a deer! I'm after it. Of course my legs are long enough...

One day I'll grow wings...

Writers more illustrious than myself have addressed this issue, and their words will, I hope, suffice.

William Shakespeare (Macbeth)
I have no spur
To prick the sides of my intent, but only
Vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself,
And falls on th'other. . . .

Ah, but a man's dog's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for?
ROBERT BROWNING, "Andrea del Sarto"

  1. It's just part of our terriertude....

Browning's onto it; Bertie lad, never stop pondering such things, for 'tis only by attempting what seems impossible, that the possible reveals itself.

...though I wouldn't be planning any venison dishes quite yet... hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  7. Well Bertie I, Madi, think a man with ambitions and lofty goals is to be admired!! Now that being said...stay away from the birds...if they get excited they can be MESSY!!

  9. oh I'm sure you can be faster than a train, and you can run faster than a deer and wit enough treats you will get wings once...nothing is impawsible for a dog, right?

  10. Head in the clouds, feet on the ground - that is our motto!

  11. If only I had wings
I’d fly beyond the rainbows door
In search of heavens stardust shore
    Where long forgotten dreams
    will all come true.
    Dream on Bertie.

  22. Howdy Bertie. Yep, it's always good to dream big. We still wish we could ride in a train, sigh. We wish you could chase deer too. It would be fun for you, but probably not for the deer. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory
P.S. Bertie, if you saw mum in her nightie in the morning it would put you off your breakfast!

  23. Today is the day fer the wearin' o' the green. I am the green checker, oh no you have no green on. Go to jail go Go directly to Jail. Do not pass GO, do not collect $200.
