An error in logic

Come Sunday evening, I couldn't help but notice that Gail had been home for the best part of two days, and had completely unpacked her bicycle panniers, which disgorged a number of much worn merino wool tops and sundry alarming glow-in-the-dark outer garments, plus allen keys, spare inner tubes, maps and suchlike, but not a single item that could reasonably be described as a special present for one's favourite and much missed wire-haired fox terrier.

Then I heard her saying this to a friend on the phone. "Oh but it's pointless buying presents for dogs, don't you think? I've better things to do on holiday than go shopping. And besides, I've devoted almost the entire weekend to spending quality time with Bertie. I took him for a long walk in Kirkhill Forest this afternoon, despite the sleet, and afterwards let him cuddle up on my lap, still damp from his post-walk bath, and helped him catch up with all his blog pals, including the much anticipated new PON pups Bob and Sophie."

You know I thought my owner was a highly qualified scientist, supposedly skilled in logical reasoning.

So how come she couldn't work out that buying treats for one's pet and spending quality time with him are not mutually exclusive activities.....?

  1. You are so right, Bertie. There's a brain pathway blocked there or something....better get it seen to.

We hope you didn't get dunked in a cold stream after your wonderful walk.

  4. Can't fault your logic Bertie. Treats are an important way to show affection we think. Have a marvelous Monday.

  5. Bertie it is good to read you have escaped prison and are back home.
Disappointing you did not receive a pressie, but there again our Mum has just returned from the continent and we didn't get a thing either...

Pee S. Sorry about the above comment in another name. Our human brother was signed into our computer and we accidentally commented under his name.

  7. Oh no Bertie! This is terrible. I think you'll have to drag Gail up to Pet Comforts this week and make her buy some good treats, to make up for it. I'm sure you would have loved to try French dog treats!
Glad to see you faced the sleet and went out for a muddy walk (I didn't), but isn't it weird that it's sort of sunny again just now?
How was prison? I hope they treated you with utmost respect and weren't too hard on you!

  8. Oh Bertie,
Life isn't fair, is it? The best option is to do exactly what you are doing - cover yourself with mud, run around like a lunatic and leave pawprints everywhere. EVERYWHERE!!! That should give Gail the hint that one-on-one time is better than any treat in any form (haha)

  9. ps Welcome back to Gail!
(Bertie, did you see that Gail met up with your clone during her travels?)
I certainly hope that the weather warms up and that your Spring is just around the corner. I suppose one gets to the point where you say 'Enough is enough! No more snow!' Hope the sun comes out soon.

  10. No present, my that is unfair. Now your Gail is definitely very devoted but by now she should know the score and remember that a present is always appreciated. I can see not wanting to buy one while on the trip, so perhaps you could get her to purchase you one afterwards

  12. We agree - treats and time aren't the same thing. You should give your mom sad eyes for that! Lee and Phod

  13. We're sorry Bertie that you didn't at least get a goodie bag or two from her trip. That's just plain injustice. Hopefully maybe she will learn a lesson for the next time she leaves you.

  18. Bertie,

Sometimes even smart humans reveal a shocking lack of sensitivity to our deepest needs.

    Wirey empathy and head shaking.

  20. Mucky Bertie! Bad Gail... a wee French treat would have been the least you would expect. A nice French pastry comes to mind.

  22. What is Gail saying, has she lost her mind. Why you deserve a present you kept the home fires going while she was away. She is treating you like a subservient. Bertie I feel your pain.

  24. Quality time and doggie treats are not mutually exclusive, but collectively exhaustive!

  25. Bertie, the same twisted logic is often used at my estate and I am sick to death of it. How we suffer.
