Opinionated already...

Hi! I'm Bertie, aged eight weeks and 5 days old. Only one day in my new home and I'm already expected to be getting the hang of this computing lark!
But you know what? That whole geek thing doesn't appeal just yet.

I so much prefer eating (where did it all go?).

And playing with my new toys..

And having a nibble of Gail's slipper..

And who knew that cameras could be such fun!

When I get tired, I just want to cuddle up against my hot water bottle..
PS. Can you believe that Gail tried to make me do a poo outside in the hail this morning? I don't think so Gail. What do you mean "Hamish wouldn't have minded"? I really don't see what's that's got to do with anything!

  4. Hi Bertie and Welcome to blogland...
we only met Hamish shortly before he became sick. He was indeed a stately gentleman....and for you to be born on the day he went to the Great Bridge is very, very special. I'm sure by now you have found his scents all about your new home. You are a very lucky puppy to be living with Gail.
    Big hug sweet puppy,

  8. Welcome aboard little one. You are in for a wonderful ride. Already quite opinionated I see. I expected nothing less from a wirey fox terrier such as yourself.

Airedales are actually bigger than mastiffs because they are very brave of heart and will stand up to anything. Don't let size fool you.

  9. Hello Bouncing Bertie, we are so very happy to meet you - we are the Basset Babes and we got to know Hamish well so we will be able to keep you right there.
You have a lovely new home with Gail - Hamish has trained her well and, for a human, she is not bad!
It must be a little strange for you right now and we are so glad you have your hot water bottle and cosy bed - so important to have a place you can call your own.
We are looking forward to getting to know you - we think that you being born on the same day as Hamish going to the bridge makes you even more extra special!
Now we have to warn you - you will see a lot of that camera but will be able to give you tips on avoiding it!
Just ignore Gail wanting you to poo in the hall - right now you just poo anywhere you want - you are just a little puppy and it is allowed. We know Hamish would give you the same advice - these humans want us dogs trained far too early - you know it takes a human about two years to be toilet trained but a puppy is supposed to learn in weeks!!!!
And to think some humans think we dogs are dumb!
Gail will be well able to clear up after you - have no worries on that score.
You don't know it yet but you are going to have lots and lots of friends in blogland - Hamish set that all up for you before he went to the bridge.
If you have any worries at all just you let us know.
    love and kisses

  12. Bertie - you are so cute and your mum's going to have so much fun having a puppy in her house! My mom had only had an old rescue dog before - never a puppy until me, so I know some of the fun things you will get up to with her, and I look forward to reading about your adventures and seeing more photos of you.

  14. Bertie, you have to train those humans right from the very beginning, or they'll always try to walk all over you!

you sure are a cute little lady! i like to eat, too, so i think we're gonna get along grrreat! heehee. :)
funny you mention this poo-ing thingie. when my mama and daddy got me, they tried to get me to go poo before we got in the car to drive home. well, the only grass was on a hill, but i was a good boy and did my business. the hill was kinda steep cuz i was only 5 lbs at the time, so when i squatted, i flipped over backwards and rolled down the hill a little.
    it was soooo embarrassing!!

  18. Bertie. Welcome home Sweet Boy! You've landed in a gold mine. Life is going to be good. Great. Fantastic. We can hardly wait to hear about all your adventures. We already love your voice. A spirited fella, you are. It's a tough call to know who is luckier ... you with Gail or Gail with you. A new life has begun. And we're happy to be privy to it!

Enjoy, sweet pup. And soon you'll learn that poos in the right spot at the right time will bring all sorts of wonderful reinforcement. We're guessing you already have figured that out!

    Happily your friends,
    Jake and Fergi xxoo

  19. Hi Bertie
Well you have given our mum an early laugh this morning!
We thought 'hall' as a way to the door - you know how silly humans can be - moving poo mats nearer the door etc
However now we see 'hail' we are horrified to know Gail would send you out in that!
As for Gail's story about the bike ride - you will learn to take it all with a 'pinch of salt'.
We would be proud to be your honorary Aunties!
    love and kisses

  20. Welcome home Bertie!!
I was quite looking forward to meet you, and here you are finally! You're so young but quite a lively character :) In my home country we've got a saying "A small cask makes good wine" meaning: you might still be quite a shortie, but what a good one!
Oh, and I love how you cuddle to sleep!

Looking forward to follow your adventures!
    Lots of kisses

  21. Well hello, fellow foxy!!! Your little furball self has stimulated sweet memories in our mom. She remembers "Black Friday" -- the first time she left me alone in the gated kitchen and returned to find you know what. She remembers those expensive sun glasses that were skinned in the blink of an eye. She remembers watchinbg me learn how to navigate the stairs. Learn how to walk on a leash. Learn how to sit and stay and down and -- well all the wonderful things that puppies learn to do for the first time.

We hope you'll think of us as your honorary uncles and, like our pal Eric Square Dog, are available to teach you how to train your mom Gail. Don't worry about having big Hamish paws to fill -- what we know is that every dog is his own "person" and you'll do just fine being Bertie!!!

    Wirey love,

Jake (and Just Harry and Mom)

  22. Arrroooooo! Welcome Bertie blogger! Wee little beastie boy! That's a mighty cute little wag tail you have stuck on yer bum! And you have the sweetest little pink tootsies. You have lots of fun today. I can't wait to see more photos of you and hear about your adventures. I have a similar foodie bowl...when you get bigger you can pick it up and toss it about the kitchen when Gail doesn't feed you on time. It will make a wonder clatter on the tile. Remember to groan when you do it. For now, you can put yer footie on the edge and tip it up and roll it about like a flat ball. If you do that with your water bowly, you can make a lovely mess in the kitchen. You can do paw-art by walking around in it too. Plus it's cool on the tootsies after a walkie.

    Lotsa love!

    Bonnie the wee Scottie

  23. Hoots toots Bertie !! Happy Home coming!! Your arrival made me wig my wag so fast I nearly took off to see you. What a handsome chappie you are, can't help putting my peepers on your cuteness. Specially the one of you comfy cosy in your crate showing your pink tootsies. (Mom says yours and you are good enough to eat -totally adorably scrumptious)

Can tell you're fully wired keeping Gail on HER tootsies .Yep start as you mean to go on Bertie. You'll catch on quick to my Eric Education lessons for your Gail. Use the selective hearing as often as you can and go to the top of the class for the disobedient thing already!!

Though Bertie, you must be super special being born the day dearest Hamish went to the bridge. What a honour. You and Gail are going to have a wicked good life together. Not sure who is the luckiest but boy oh boy I'm looking forward to coming along for the ride.

    Wiry love Eric xxx

Your human will be so happy that you enjoy playing with toys. It gives them pleasure to provide for you, and makes them so happy to watch you play. Humans are very easily amused.

    We welcome you dear boy!!!

Hamish was a wise, older mentor of mine and I look forward to taking on that mantle for you. Advising you of all things terrier. You have some splendid black spots and I can just tell you are going to be a handsome wee bairn. And it looks like you may already have a girlfriend in Katie!
