Hard hat needed + I kissed a CAT!

So much has been going on here of late that I haven't found time to tell you all about the Works Summer Outing I went on with Gail a couple of weeks ago.

It was an unusually warm evening for a stroll along the seashore at Stonehaven (15 miles from Aberdeen and just south of the Highland Boundary Fault). Some of Gail's colleagues were, gasp, actually wearing shorts...

And yes, you've guessed it, we were there to look at rocks. Silurian, since you ask. My observation is that some were slippery and some were sharp on the paws.

I am hoping for easier terrain on the forthcoming Skye field trip.

Oh and I hope that the company Health and Safety guy Mr Medler (yes, really) doesn't see this post.

I mean of course I would have worn a hard hat had a suitable one been provided.

When we gathered to pose for the customary group photo (before heading off for the pub) I found myself sat next to a lovely and lickable lady.

But imagine my horror when I learned that her name is cat KAT!!!!

PS from Gail: I am wondering if any of our creative friends in Blogville can think up a practical design for a hard hat /protective headwear which Bertie can wear when he joins the Isle of Skye geology field course at the end of this month? If you have a good idea (using everyday materials), please either post it on your blog and leave a comment, or just leave a comment describing your design. I shall post links to any blog which takes part, and shall attempt to replicate the design I deem most suitable and take photos of Bertie wearing it on Skye. Deadline is Monday 26 August.

Oh, you gotta know YAM-aunty loves this kinda challenge!! Bertie, look out son, you're in for some modelling works &*>

Maybe should work on some hobnail boots too, if the paws were sensitive to the terrain... Devonian fault by Aberdeen; hm methinks of Red Sandstone and perhaps some conglomerates. Dad was a keen amateur geologist and I loved collecting samples with him. Still love it.

Right better get to the drawing board. Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  2. Some home-made helmet ideas. I would recommend the roll and baguette though:

  3. Hey Bertie....yay for kissing a Kat...she looks like a very nice and friendly Cat too.

I tell you one thing no matter what style hard hat you wear you will look most handsome...I love me a man in a hat. If you also wear a bowtie I might faint.

  5. We think an upside down enamel bowl would work...then you could use it for water and food, as well.

  8. My guess would be a nicely colored plastic bowl that you could punch holes in to attach a strap of some kind.

    Have fun, Bertie!

  9. OMD BERTIE.... WE know how to do it... Have Gail Blow up a Balloon... Just the right size fur your head... and then cover it with Paper Mache
Newspaper strips dipped in a Thick mix of Flour and WATER.
She can GREASE the Balloon a bit.. and then when it all drys.. she can cut Holes fur your EARS and holes fur straps to go under your chin... and she can PAINT IT.. and put your NAME on it.

  13. You definitely need a hard hat, Bertie. You have to protect that big brain! We'll think hard on a design.

  14. Bertie - The day low here turned out to be exactly the same as the day high in Forfarshire ! You definitely need a hard hat not a sun hat !

  15. How sweet of you Bertie to give Kat a lick. Or did she smell of something delicious?
I like the idea of paper mache over a bowl mentioned above! Perhaps decorated with a saltire?

  16. Bertie,

I'm not sure what size your head is but perhaps Gail could get you a large cricket box (yes I do mean the guard with air holes that batsmen wear), as if it can take the full force of a cricket ball it should cope with small rocks. Gail could shop via Amazon (if she doesn't want to explain to sales assistant why she needs one), choose you a bright colour, add some straps, a bit of extra padding inside and your name.

    Woofs,
    Riley

PS We'd love to see Gail's health and safety man's face when she tells him what protection you intend to use!

  17. Bertie the first image I saw was you wearing a batter's helmet...I bet the size they sell for kids playing little league could be adapted for you, maybe with a chin strap?...do they sell baseball gear where you live? here's one at amazon http://www.amazon.com/Rawlings-Coolflo-Batting-Helmet-Navy/dp/B00159H738/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376003552&sr=8-1&keywords=boys+batting+helmet

  19. Bertie, you need a little rubber tupperware with a ribbon tied under your chin...I wonder if they come in green? Or how about a small pie tin, like the kind under a frozen chicken pot pie! You would look nice in silver :D

  20. Oh Bertie, what fun you had with those peeps and actually kissing a Kat!! I was cracking up seeing you!!
I would say a small kids strainer and you can tie through the holes and HEY!!it would be air conditioned too, can it get much better than that?? Or maybe one of those things you use to pour oil in to the car with although you may look like the tin man!! BOL

  21. Bertie, I can lend you my Christmas hat, if you would like. I think the point on the top would stop any falling debris knocking you on the head! Oh, I think you have a wee bit of Pippa-itis. The symptoms are mainly kissing anybody you meet, and trying to make friends with cats!
    Pippa :)

  22. A hard hat for Bertie. I think Jazzi has a great idea or maybe a kid's bike helmet?

    Your pal, Pip

  23. Oh Bertie I don't think you need a hard hat at all. Why you have a very determined strong minded brain, where as our peeps brains can be quite fickle pickles so they need protection. You better watch who you are kissing, you might make Addie upset.
    Thanks for being a friend

I think us tewwiews have much hawdew noggins than hoomans, but if yoo insist on weawing a hawd hat, i think a small collanew woold do. It woold be hawd, but have aiw holes so yoo don't ovewheat on yoow explowashuns and a stwap can be fixed to the small handles on eithew side to sasten it undew yoow chiny chin chin
Those shawp and slippewy wocks look like the ones we had to climb down on in Swissewlund and Mommi almost towe hew knee doing it. Hope it's smoofew fow yoow next adveshoowe.
    That "Kat" lady seems kissabull

  27. Hey there Bertie,
It seems that I have missed out on so much in your life...so, I'm going back to this post to check it all out.
I'm so glad to hear that you are allowed on these interesting outings. You rock, Bertie!
My suggestion for your hard hat is to perhaps consider one of our South African inventions...the 'Makarapa'.
