Bertie's motoring fantasy

It is a long drive from Aberdeen to Nottingham and back.

Yes, we did go by car this time. For some reason Gail decided to give the train a break...

Much as I like the Mini, and approve of the arrangement whereby the rear seats are folded down and all the space in the back is devoted to my comfort, I have to say that in warmer weather the lack of air conditioning is a drawback.

One can only stand with one's nose sticking out the front window for so long.

I have been looking out for a new car for us for quite some time now.

On the way home yesterday, we stopped for a break in the cute wee town of Moffat and I spotted the perfect vehicle in a hotel car park.

A vintage Bugatti.

I checked it over quite carefully.

Stylish, full of character, beautifully engineered and designed for staying cool.

Oh yes, I can imagine myself being driven all over the Scottish Highlands, wind in my furs, drawing gasps of admiration from envious bystanders (even more so than usual).

Gail, where can we buy one in Aberdeen?

Oh I am going to put my paws over my flappy little ears if you start on with your boring objections. And it doesn't rain here that much. Does it......?

PS I have been told to mention that my sore paw is quite better now. To tell you the truth, I had forgotten all about it.

  1. Gail's very first objection might have to do with the cost of this machine, like around 87 bazillion USD, but I am sure you would not let THAT stand in your way, Bertie.

    Cheers,
    Stella

  2. You look right at home standing there next to that vintage car Bertie, like an Agatha Christie film.

  4. No Bertie, I think that you should inform Gail to buy you one of the new F type Jaguars - much more reasonable and probably more reliable than the vintage car.
When I saw your photo next to the priceless car Bertie I kept thinking "I hope Bertie didn't relieve himself against the tyre".
    You didn't did you Bertie?

    1. No Craig I did not dampen the tyres. But I do approve of your use of language. 'Inform' Gail to buy me a Jag, not 'ask'!

  5. Doesn't rain much???

We think you'd look dashing in that. We can just see you with a scarf waving in the breeze (Not an Isadora Duncan type, though.)

Wonder why Gail wanted to drive ALL that way and not take the train....hmmm a mystery.

Bertie 'Wooster', that is surely your style, right enough. You may wish to advise Gail that a canopy only costs an additional 87 crores (that's megamillions in Hindi) - to protect against all the sun you're having when the rain is not.

Tsk... now you've got ME dreaming!

Moffat's a great wee place. Glad to see you took a scenic and classy return drive.

  19. Hello Bertie

We have been so busy we haven't managed to keep up with everyone's news. We have just had a jolly good read through all your posts. I expect Gail must be happy your HGD is now safe and comfy in his new place. How wonderful you can go and visit him.

Glad your poorly paw has healed up and you are now able to keep a close eye on Gail. We like your taste in cars but feel that is is a summer car and you need to keep the Mini for wi ter time.

  20. We cannot imagine a car without air-conditioning here Bertie. It's way more important than heating given our temps.

I think you do need one with a roof. You are the one who tells us about all the rain!! And wind, and snow etc

  22. Bertie,
What very good taste you have! I myself know the feeling of being stuck in a little mini, but fortunately I don't have to do that anymore! Yes, that car would do nicely I think. I can just picture you and Gail taking it (not walking) right into Duthie Park and parking it at the bandstand for everybody to see!
