We were headed to the beach today but Gail insisted we pause first at the Remembrance Sunday ceremony in Gairloch.
It was at the war memorial besides the Free Presbyterian Church.
I was standing there all quiet and respectful but Gail was still worried she might be condemned to eternal damnation for filming the 'Wee Frees' on the Sabbath.
Of course I made friends as always and there was no problem.
One last look at the poppies...
And it was off to Gruinard Bay.
Yes, this really is Northwest Scotland in November!
What a lovely place for the remembrance. Enjoy that great weather!

It was touching to see you with the poppies, Bertie. And we are deep impressed what a wonderful weather you have... seems we really should move to your country, huh?
ReplyDeleteI nearly forgot the most important thing. Guess what? We have new neighbors from Scotland. They are super nice but sadly only here for holidays. That's a little bit like living in Scotland now too, so my mom's wish came (nearly) true :o)
DeleteOH THE BEAUTIFUL PIPES... Our MOM heard them and Stopped in her tracks.
ReplyDeleteDid we ever tell you that WE are PRESBYTERIAN?
Our Kirk is one that was used in the UNDERGROUND RAILROAD... to help escaped Slaves get to freedom.
OH THAT PIC of YOU with the Poppies.... So very lovely and you were the PERFECT RESPECTFUL PUP.
We will be Honoring and Remembering OUR Veteran's on Tuesday.
What a lovely day for you Bertie, very respectful at the Memorial and then a great bounce on the beach !
ReplyDeleteDid I detect all 4 paws off the ground at once! That's FLYING !

ReplyDeleteOMD Bertie you will not believe this - I am sitting watching Countryfile and they are doing a piece on the dogs used in WW1 for first aid and message carriers and such - the best at that were Airedales!!!
I drove back from Edinburgh to Dunoon in this glorious November sunshine (11'C!!) and saw the ceremony at Gourock... and remembered my 'old boys', whom I nursed and had the privilege of hearing their stories. Poignant day.
Your beach photos brought a lump to my throat. Blessings to you and Gail, hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
Crikey Aunty ..... Airedales AND Irish terriers because the noise of guns and bombs didn't faze them. Nothing much fazes an Irish ..... I don't know about Airedales but Mum's told me all about the Irish. Our Harri was an Irish.
DeleteWOW...look at all that sunshines!! Our weather is usually similar to yours (we live on the Pacific North Coast USA) but we have foggies and drizzle here...Enjoy Bertie!!!
ReplyDeleteSmileys!

Same as Whitley said....we like that photo.
That looks like ti was a beautiful ceremony! We love the sounds of the bagpipe. One day we would love to go to Scotland but our pawrents could NEVER board us so i guess we won't make it.

I am pretty sure I might have had trouble being quite as respectful as you Bertie. Sometimes I just can't help myself. And, yes, both our beaches are pretty darn lovely!!!!
