I expect you will be looking at the picture above and thinking, "Whoa there Bertie, look at you galloping so carefree through the verdant forest - what a tip top time you're having".
And you would be right. Up to a point.
But something important was missing.
I searched high and low but I could not find it anywhere.
In the end I had to stop and ask.
"But Gail, where is all the mud?"
Normally, at this stage in the walk my paws should be nicely coated in a layer of the squelchy brown stuff and, on a good day I would be jumping into the car with a full set of stylish dark "socks" all the way up to my knees, enhancing my already much admired natural markings.
But no. In Aberdeen we have had almost no rain for weeks. This is most unnatural! One set of American visitors have returned home to the Seattle area under the mistaken impression that Scotland is a country blessed with many dry warm days and cloud-free skies.
Tomorrow we are heading across to Torridon for a short break.
It's always wetter on the West Coast. Surely I'll find some mud there?
Oh. Gail is telling me that wildfires not far from our cottage made the national news a few days ago.
Can this really be true?
I shall be reporting back early next week.

ReplyDeleteBertie lad, I have to repawt that there has been a week of remarkable (mid-20s celsius) weather over here on the West Bonny Land. Unprecedented indeed!!! There is a heavy haar this past two days though- foghorn's ablowing, but the temps are warm and you would be best advised to take the jungle juice against the midges!!! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
Gail says: Jungle juice is being packed. So is the swimsuit.
DeleteI hope the fires will cause no harm... If you need some mud I can send you some... we had the great deluge during the last days and we now have swamps and mud efurrywhere ;O)))
ReplyDeleteWow Bertie - that's almost as warm as here ! Well, it was actually 29ÂșC in the shade, a minute or two ago, but you're getting closer !
ReplyDeleteYou be careful you don't get your nose sunburned !
Love,
Inca xx
We have some rain here that we would love to share. It might seem a bit arid to you, but we had almost 11 inches of rain last month, and places on the western side of Afton Mountain (part of the Blue Ridge) got 7 inches two days ago, overnight! For Dogs sake!
ReplyDeleteThat’s OK, you wouldn’t think it was much of a mountain either, but our yard is much muddy and the creek in the back is running pretty fast so I can’t even go off lead in my own yard! But we could find plenty of places to get muddy.
Let us know when you are arriving!
Teka Toy not a wire but a JRT!
Bertie darlin' the rain has been here for the last 2 weeks. Our mountains have had mudslides and that is quite unusual. Today is the first full day of sun in over 2 weeks.
ReplyDeleteHave fun at your cottage and OMCs do be careful with the fires fingers crossed you get so much needed rain.
Hugs madi your bfff
We are happy to see our daily thunderstorms start drying up. But now it may get too hot. Enjoy your break!

The Momster doesn't like it when we find mud, but we love it. We hope you get some rain soon - we have had plenty - so those wildfires can go away.
ReplyDeleteWoos - Lightning, Misty, and Timber
Oh no, we sure hope you find some mud and rain puts the fires out!
ReplyDeleteKeep Calm & Get Muddy!

We're ….well...SHE's hangin' out for some rain. It is very dusty here.
ReplyDeleteYikes, Bertie, wildfires are scary! Luckily my bit of the western US has been getting a lot of rain the last couple of weeks. I can send you some if you'd like, but given how prone this area is to fires I'm keeping a lot of it!
ReplyDeleteHi hi hi! Ojo here! Our mud has also gone away. I wonder where it's all gone - your mud and my mud? I hope you find some on the Wet Coast. Also, stay safe from the fires! Is there much smoke?
ReplyDeletePleased to report that the fires (small in scale compared to the ones you get in your part of the world) have been extinguished and the air is smoke free. But still no mud!
DeleteBertie - Don't worry. There have been sightings of mud in Tomintoul this weekend.
