To the snow line

We're over at our cottage this weekend, celebrating Gail's new freedom. On Saturday afternoon, the Torridon hills, freshly dressed in white, were sparkling in unexpected sunshine, and who could resist their call?

Not me!

But as I went racing up the Coire Mhic Nobuil path on Saturday afternoon, Gail seemed more interested in pausing to photograph the torrents of water cascading down the steep hillsides.

Most irritatingly, she even forced me to stop and pose at one point (can you imagine?)

But I was on a mission to reach the snowline and wouldn't be held back for long.

Only when I'd finally felt the cool crunch of the snow under my paws was I happy to stop for another photo (and treat) break...

I was all for heading on up the hill where the snow was deeper, but Gail said she wasn't properly equipped, so after one more pose (a particularly fine one, in my opinion) we started the descent.

Further down the path, we met these two guys. Gail commented "what handsome huskies" but the owner corrected her, saying they were Northern Inuits, which are apparently a mix of Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute and German Shepherd. They are supposed to be more biddable than purebred Sibes.

Of course, us terriers think 'biddability' is a greatly over-rated concept!

Best retirement cake ever?

Cake designed and made by Gail's creative and dog-loving boss (now ex-boss).
Thank you Ali. You clearly know what's important!

Living dangerously...?

PS I am looking forward to lots of long lie ins and morning snuggles after today, as it's Gail's last day at work before she finally retires!

It's fun to be a Foxy!

So we had a little meet and greet in the Muir of Dinnet car park on Sunday morning, ahead of the monthly wire-haired fox terrier walk. It was a small but select group this time. Quality rather than quantity, if you like.

Stan, Merin, Pickles and I were joined by Stan's houseguest Toby, who is not a WFT, but we didn't hold that against him.

Introductions complete, we set off down the path through the birch trees to Loch Kinord. For the first time this year, I felt snow under my paws.

The sun shone brightly. The snow had melted and the wind had freshened by the time we completed our circumnavigation of the Loch.

We were all "good dogs" throughout, although perhaps Merin could use some extra training in the matter of posing for the end of walk team photo.

Gosh it was fun. I bet Dobermann Toby is wishing he was a Foxy!
