Distant friends

Gosh it's been ages since I saw my nice pals in England. More than a year in fact. So when I asked if we are going to visit Janet in Nottingham soon, or perhaps meet up with Janet and Helen for a walking holiday in Northumberland again, Gail just sighed, sat me down in front of the computer and said "sorry Bertie, this is the best we can do right now".

Fellow pups, have you ever taken part in one of these 'Zoom' calls?

Such a disappointment.

For starters, there is no connection, other than linguistic, between 'doing a Zoom' and 'doing Zoomies'. Rather than having a wild time racing around the garden in circles, one is supposed to sit still, stay awake and pay attention to faces flickering on the MacBook screen.

It seems Janet did attempt at one point to engage my interest by growling at me through the screen, but by then I had drifted off...

Now Gail is always telling me that in this time of lockdown restrictions one has to focus on what one can do, and not what one can't.

But it's hard isn't it? I mean Janet is, among her many talents, a world beater when it comes to playing tug-of-war with a terrier-like level of commitment, and this is not an experience that can be replicated in the virtual world.

Likewise, I'll never forget the wonderful time I spent as a puppy, licking the berry-flavoured moisturiser off Helen's feet...

Oh I do hope we can go down to England and see some of our lovely friends in person before too long.

  1. berrie we hear ya... and we hope that this nightmare is over soon... we all turn into hermits and we will go back to cavemen times if we are locked and grounded at home for much longer...

  2. It is a sad time for us all, Bertie, humans and doggies alike.
It's not so quite bad for me because although I don't have the lovely long walks that you do, I do get out and meet other people walking their dogs too. We also see my Auntie Clare for a weekly breakfast meet up. She's very good and slips me the odd croissant flake when my human (old meanie!) isn't looking. She even gives my human her coffee biscuit for me to have later. That's something isn't it!

    Love,
    Inca xx

Bertie lad, I hear ya! I have missed that thee and me could not have our visits. I got an email linking the funeral of a dear pal in OZ and was shocked to see >100 folk huddled together to say farewell to her... no FACTS going on there! Some of my tears, it has to be said were not about G, but about our restriction. A year and counting... Hugs and wags YAM-aunty xxx (who loves the Meet app. Named more appropriately!)

  4. These COVID restrictions are getting VERY old, aren't they, Bertie. We pray that one day in the future, things will be back to where they used to be.

  5. We agree that doing zoomies around your friends is better than doing a Zoom meeting. Walter likes to drop in on our mom's weekly Zoom meetings with her yarn loving friends and she often gets to see the other participants dogs and cats too. It's not the same as in person but it's better than nothing.

  6. Bertie Gail is right we do need to focus on what we can do...but it is hard.
    Now for a Zoom funny:
My grandcat Mia absolutely is devoted to my son in law (Frisco is is Mama's boy). Mia comes running whenever SIL is out of the room even for a minute she tries to climb up his legs.
So a few weeks ago he had a Zoom call for work.
Both kitties were sleeping elsewhere. SIL was participating in the Zoom call when out of no where Mia appears...100% sure he is talking to her she makes a leap up to the table walks right in front of the computer to SIL's face.
Everyone on the zoom chuckled..SIL said Mia's says high to everyone.
    Hugs Cecilia

  7. I hear you about the zoom calls! I try to participate by looking cute, but then I just get so bored (no treats!) and nap the whole time mom is yakking!

  8. Momma has called me over to Zoom calls sometimes. She says that Grandma is on the phone, or our Best Guy. But I stare and stare and don't see anything different that when she usually uses her phone or computer. But the other day, I heard Grandma's pup Aunt Gracie barking from the phone, and I tried REAL hard to figure that one out!

  9. Bertie, there sure is a very big disconnect between Zoom meetups and zooming. We like the real zooming best. But we do ZOOM sometimes with our human brother in Texas, but it is really weird:)

  10. It won't be long now Bertie! With all the peeps gettin' their shots, it should be just a few more months, and you should be able to see your pals!
