So we went across to the Torridon cottage earlier this week, for what Gail said would be a "flying visit" to "see how things were going".
I can't remember if I've mentioned this before but, after eighteen years of dithering, Gail has finally initiated a major renovation/remodelling of the cottage. The builder started work on schedule in October and I was warned to expect a few changes...
A few changes? Talk about British Understatement!
Where is the kitchen?
Well at least we still had a bed - albeit a rather dusty one - for our overnight stay.
If you think I am looking upset in the picture above, that's because I am.
However, I am pleased to say that Gail, recognising the extent of my trauma, took me out for a nice walk before we returned to Aberdeen. It might be all mayhem in the cottage but, thank heavens, the landscape around us is unchanged and as lovely as ever, resplendent in its late autumn clothing.
oooh the kitchen is gone? wow! but your projects look much better than ours and we are sure the resultat is much better too ;O)
ReplyDeleteOh dear. I'm with Bertie, change is bad.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, but never mind, Bertie, it will all be lovely when it's finished.
ReplyDeleteThe walk in the sunshine and in such glorious autumn scenery surely made up for all your woes?
Love,
Inca xx
Wow- you're in full remodeling stage! We hope the workers are fast workers so your sofa is back in place next time you see your cottage, Bertie.

ReplyDeleteYIKES... a dog's territory ought not to be messed with, am I right, Bertie lad??? Never mind - think of the new territory you will have to defend when it's all done!!! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
OH no, not the KITCHEN! we rather have a kitchen than a bedroom. Hope that sofa comes back SOON... I am thinking you will love it when it is completed. you look beautiful out on your walkabout...
ReplyDeleteThat is some serious renovation going on, Bertie. We're glad to see you were able to get out and enjoy a walk in the countryside.
ReplyDeleteOh Bertie this too shall pass albeit slow as molasses in December. Renovations are wonderful...after they are over. Whew what trauma no sofa, not kitchen no loo!! What is a boy to do...but walk the lovely hills. Will you have new appliances for the kitchen too?
ReplyDeleteHugs Cecilia
Gail is at pains to point out that there is at least a functioning toilet and washbasin in the cottage, albeit no shower!
DeleteThe scenery and walk does somewhat make up for all the construction!! (We did wonder about the facilities until we saw the comment above.)
ReplyDeleteWow...we can understand while you were so upset Bertie, looks like the cottage is getting a total makeover!!
ReplyDeleteWe sure are glad Gail took you for a nice hike to clear your worries a bit!
We had the same thing happen here a few years ago, Bertie. But it was in our main and only home. It was quite disturbing to us since we had multiple occasions where we had to leave OUR home and go stay at the kennel!!! But in the end it was all good. We think your cottage is going to look amazing once the work is finished.

We hope the renovations turn out as Gail hope and there are no unseen pricey surprises.
ReplyDeleteI hate change. I would like everything to be the way it is. When things change I get confused. At least you got a walk.
ReplyDeleteRemodeling is very disorienting, Bertie! I'm glad that you don't have to live there while they are doing the work. But your walk was spectacular! I love the autumn colors in your area. That second to last photo is warm and gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteOMD, I hope they remember to put your kitchen back!! But if they leave out the bathroom...well, that just means no more baths, right?
ReplyDeleteBertie - The only saving grace about builders is that they can be trained to bring Jaffa Cakes.
ReplyDeleteThe renovations look to be very intense, but your walk afterward looks soooooo pretty!
